During work today, my nephew, aged 16, send me numerous SMS messages on my mobile phone asking if I could phone him. I was quite busy at work today, but managed to get the time to call him and hear what he wanted.

He told me that he was considering buying a "cool watch" and asked me what he should get. He told me that he would spend up to 4,500 DKR on it (~ 865 $).

He seemed to be very hooked on some Seiko "Yachting timer" (), and I told him that Seiko watches are indeed very good value for the money but that he should consider if he would indeed have any use for the functions of a yachting timer. I also suggested other brands, including Certina and Tissot.

Well, to make a long story short, he went to an AD and got this one. It weighs in at a staggerig 215 grams! MSRP is DKR. 3,995:

First of all,congratulations to your nephew!
That`s really good watch(yachting-timer is more than wonderful but,like you said,he`ll probably never use it,so this is the right choice).
I like Velatura series very much,altought they`re maybe bit too big for my wrist.
He picked up model with standard 7T62 caliber,a very reliable and precise movement(I got it in two watches and it`s absolutely unmistakeable).
The only thing that is pity is that he DIDN`T picked up probably most interesting quartz watch of today,Seiko Velatura Kinetic Direct Drive,a work of art movement with capability of winding(actually recharging battery!) via it`s crown(like most of automatic and all manual watches)!
And of course,battery is recharging with every wrist move,which is standard for Kinetic watches.
