Absolutely no way to predict Patek releases

I was thinking about how unexpected and even "weird and wonderful" some of the new model Patek releases have been the past years (this ignore the ultra high end and ladies (sorry!))

I wonder if we'll see total new models or just variations? The pace of complete novel models has been pretty intense (especially compared to Rolex)

2015 5524 "Pilot Calatrava" and 5905p
2016 5935 "World Time...Chrono"
2017 5320
2018 no totally new model (just variations maybe count 5968 and 5740)
2019 5212a "weekly calatrava" (and 5712 )
2020 Covid
2021 5236 inline perpetual and 6119
2022 5226 "calatrava" and 5326

Yes, they've brought quite many surprises over the years. It's tough to make completely new models each year, it requires so much work in design and tools adaptation. No brands do this and I must say that Patek provides such a wide array of new models (even if new versions of existing ones) that it's already great in order to have some diversity.

There are sometimes such very different spirit versions within a same family like the 5172G Blue (casual) vs 5172G Salmon (more traditional).

The 5168 has brought something very new vs the 5167A, or the 5935A vs 5930 and the whole collections seem to mirror this.

However, this year, it's the 30th anniversary of the Gondolo. Maybe something on this side?

it's kind of crazy how they are able to make so many different watches with different case sizes, different dials, different complications every year. meanwhile Rolex, who have way more budget, can't do much more than changing a dial or two.

i see i wrote 5712 instead of 5172 (did you know you can find a transposition by seeing if the difference is evenly divisible by 9?)

no question that small changes can make a big difference, but i am excited to see if there will be an entirely new watch like there has been 6 of the past 8 years.

I'm really hoping for a new 5196 i.e. 6196. The 6119 is to big for a Calatrava, if they bring back the 5196 with a larger movement and display caseback it will be an absolute homerun.

Actually, it makes a lot of sense. Rolex can only do what it does by finding ever increasing ways to scale operations, which Patek has zero interest in. The limiting factor for Rolex is what it's able to fabricate through automation, and how much quicker its watchmakers can assemble based on what amounts to muscle memory. Patek couldn't be more different.

i do too. I feel they are going to stick with the 6119 for a while. So much apparent design is in the 6119, and with the clous de paris design elements on many of their dress watches now - i think they want to continue to further let that sink in and become its own icon - that distills so much the manual pateks from the 30s - 90s into one piece.

I totally agree it's too big to be what it ought to be. A 33mm clous de paris is a subtle detail, at 39mm it's too much "presence" for me (and i have a 7.25 wrist so it wouldn't be a size issue)

Of course a theoretical 6196p that merely updates the 5196p is a grail for many. i don't expect they will redo a brushed two part breguet arabic style version of the 6196p maybe ever.

So do I! I must say the 5172 and 5326 were especially very appealing to me (in fact I read 5172 :p).

Isn't this better? Rather than having a bunch of people on the other side of the forum trying to tell others that their observation is better and others are wrong. We just wait till Monday to see what Patek releases then discuss

I would say a 6196 would make sense but maybe not this year given the 6119 is still new. Additionally, the World Time lineup could likely be updated as they discontinued many of the 5230 lineup.

Those calatravas, did not expect the calatrava to ever go so modern. Looks like a racing watch now. I really like the red one.

Yeah I like the red, some beautiful pieces, I think Patek smashed it this year, the steel Daytona is probably the best by for from Rolex and Tudor

Wow, so many beautiful and interesting releases. I think that’s one of my favourite things about Patek, they have such a huge variation of watches.

The 5316/50P-001 is a fine addition. A true masterpiece.

Are these the new models? The new world timer is stunning but absolutely no way I can get it.

All the new models have a bit too much going on for me. Maybe all Patek cares about is NBA stars and Elton John.

Then again, I am too poor and don't matter.
