How impossible will it be to get a 5740
from an AD with 0 to little history? Thanks |

My dealer lost patek last year, so i'm basically starting from scratch
I tried to start a relationship with another Ad, bought my wife a lady's rolex and nice necklace, but my SA is terrible. Like she doesn't care about my business at all. So might eventually go grey for it. |

The grey price is actually not much higher than AD price now. So that can be an option.

This if you have $150k plus to buy from AD - buy it grey for 200k and be happy or spend 500k and maybe get one in a couple years when it’s discontinued and costs 300k or more on the grey market Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Exactly my thought. I think I have seen grey at <$200k now so getting from AD if you don’t already have a solid relationship is not a probable route. Even if an AD is willing to offer one, it is likely to be next year and another price increase later. So the $200k today is likely to be not much more than what the OP would be paying grey today. Unless OP is looking to build an AD relationship for some other pieces. Speaking from my personal experience, I have my name and deposit down for the 5740 in 2020 when it was $138k and grey was about $170. I am scheduled to receive it this year at $158. (I hope :-)) |

Fingers crossed. My AD had been teasing me about it may show up early, I guess it was all a tease after 2+ years but on my order form, it did say deliver by 12/31/2023. So I guess it should stick. |

I do not think the buyer pool for this one is very high. I suspect you should be able to find one on the gray market and negotiate some as well. Yes will be higher than MSRP but you will have to spend far more to get it from an AD and/or may never get it at all.

i think the market price of the 5740 is undervalued, especially compared to the other nautilus. Wonderful piece imho

When ADs make you spend such big bucks on other stuff and wait forever so that the logical, economical choice is to go gray…..they have overplayed their hand.

Been that way for a few years. I mean let’s not forget grey dealers provide excellent service while ADs expect a thorough a** kissing too. The amount of well off people reduced to kissing watch salespeople’s a** the last 5 years is astonishing haha I know I’ve been there.

Before the 2021-2022 run up, the 5740 was never seeing a big premium. When I ordered mine in 2020, I think the C24 price was only 20% over MSRP so in reality the real market price was probably very little over list. At the crazy peak, I saw some listed at 500k which I thought it was nuts. |

Undervalued compared to other releases. Will be interesting to see what it does in a logical market after discontinuation.

No, I would not at this time. I like variety and being able to change things up. If you do it, be sure you absolutely love the 5740 and can live with just it as a one and only. For me, I know this would be impossible and then unloading the 5740 would likely be a challenge. The buyer pool for a 200K watch isnt all too big unless you go to a gray and take that whack. Then you have to re-acquire watches you got rid of or try to buy others. Just not worth it for me and honestly, I find the 5740 dial confusing.....

Depending on that third watch I would. The 5712G lacks the Nautilus bracelet and I don't like the current series Overseas. So it would likely be an upgrade, quality over quantity.
Personally I don't want 5740 at any price though. I would have bought it a few years ago at an MSRP of just above EUR 100k. But there were already 10 people ahead at the AD and it remains years away. Now MSRP is EUR 150k and if and when I get the call it may well be 200k. Paying 6x or 8x as much as paid for 5711 blue not long ago feels a little over the top. |
