1908 also has an open case back

I am telling you, I am not a huge dress watch fan but the 1908 looks fantastic.

Wow. My god am I getting a dress watch? I think Rolex knocked it out of the park with this release.

Transparent case back on a traditionally dressy watch is good.

Beautiful. Look at all the trademark Haute Horlogerie finishing techniques. Gold sinks really pop. I believe this may be tremendous value if the finishing in real life is up to par with competitors.

I am eagerly watching for the first in depth review vs. promo videos.

Yeah, I don’t know how you can compare the 2. Apples and oranges.

Rolex needed to step up their game, and they definitely did with the 1908. Well done.

i like this a lot wish it were in steel as a good jlc master control competitor. the jlc 899 movement also appears a little bit less industrial to me and a bit finer to me

For me, it's not looking like a dress, but a grandpa watch. But it's just me :)

Why not Mercedes hand on the hour hand? The circle in the hour hand looks a bit hollow...

I kinda like it...very "Breguet-esque". I think straight up Mercedes might look too sporty. IMO.

100% I concur and it has steered me away from the Lange I had been eyeing for a potential dress watch.

I like the Lange 1815 and PP 6119R small seconds more...

I think most will. The question is will they (you guys') like it $9k more?

I'd still pick a Lange Saxonia over the 1908.

For me there’s a bit too much going on with that dial for a dress watch, YMMV

Also, why is it 1908, and not 1905? Is Rolex trying to rewrite history? Oh yeah, it's not an English watch company founded in 1905, it's Swiss... see, 1908!

I like the watch and applaud the commitment to go open caseback.

Any commentary on the quality of finishing? Obviously not ALS level but does it pass for a 22K dress watch?

I probably would too Russ.

Although the Saxonia is 35mm I believe, I listed the 1815 because it is the same size as the Rolex 1908.

The Saxonia is pretty much the same price as the 1908. Tough call for many, Lange makes a helluva watch.
