Rolex 14060 (serial K881834) STOLEN from my 73 year old father's wrist

Hi,

Yesterday at 4PM my father was walking back home in Brussels, Belgium and did not notice a man was following him.
When he opened the door of his house the man rushed inside behind him, tackled him and ripped his watch off his wrist before running away.
He was wearing it on a Nato strap which probably helped the thief.

Thanks god my father is fine and was left with only scratches and a big shock.
Material things are always replaceable but since he wore it everyday since it was bought new in 2002, it was more a question of sentimental value.

He filed a police report right away and sent them a copy of the papers along with pictures of the watch.
The police told him they could reach out to Rolex Belgium but that we needed to report the Serial numbers to the Rolex service centers International database.
How do I proceed to do that?

The watch is a Rolex No date Submariner 14060 Serial K881834, it is on a nato so it should be easy to see the serial.
For those who know Brussels it was stolen in Ixelles, near Avenue Louise.
The police said it is very common these days, they almost always target women or older men with Rolexes.
I had heard many similar stories in Paris and London but not in Brussels, my advice is when you go to any of these cities avoid Rolex and wear a swatch or a low-key watch.

Of course, if anyone were to come across this watch online or in a store, please do let me know. Thank you.

Here is a picture of the watch (left is the one that got stolen, right one is mine):

That's my father's wrist last night, the guy must have pulled pretty hard because you could still see the holes of the nato:

Why can’t people just get a job? Sorry to hear about the assault and theft. As long as he’s ok it’s just a material thing.

Sorry that your father was attacked and his watch stolen, I hope that the police catch the lowlife who did this.

Crime is an unfortunate part of our lives nowadays but it mustn’t be allowed to dictate what we wear and when we wear it on our wrists.

Brussels like most modern cities is a predominately safe city but unfortunately sh!t like this happens occasionally.

Please wish your father a speedy recovery.

Thank you all for the kind words!!

Of course catching the guy or finding the watch would be nice but, as most of you mentioned, the only thing that really matters is that he is ok.

Rolex 14060 (serial K881834) STOLEN from my 73 year old father's wrist

Man… these lowlifes… there needs to be harsher consequences..

Anyways… I’m sorry your father went through that. I doubt you’ll recover the watch, sadly… but make sure to file it with Rolex (I don’t know how either).

Because at some point it will be sent to service by the next owner (cause they’ll find a victim to sell it to).

This is exactly why I NEVER buy a watch without papers or matching parts.

I spend a lot of time in Brussels too and up to today it felt relatively safe indeed.
What shocks me is that this happened at 4 in the afternoon with very busy streets.

As for the guy telling the watch is genuine, I assume it is part of the reason he followed him to the house.
Less chance someone will intervene inside a house and if it's a nice house = high probability the watch is real.

You are absolutely right, you should wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing.

It's just with more and more of these things happening it is important to be aware of the risks.

If you didn’t already find it, Rolex Global Headquarters Phone Number:

Swiss company number:
CH-660.0.012.920-4 (corrected from my first reply)

I would call and ask to be connected to the customer service desk handling EU theft list.

Much luck - the police are best route in the early going. If they can’t recover it soon, there’s always a hope some good faith buyer might submit it for service down the road.

The RSC is very close to avenue Louise. Go there with paperwork and police paperwork and report it. You might want to phone before hand, they have gotten lazier and less polite over the years (in fairness they were always polite but you could see you were bothering the woman at the reception desk).

Sorry about the loss, do not regret wearing the nato. NATO or oyster bracelet, both come off very easily, as I found out when I was playing basketball at a local parc one day with friends. As a matter of fact, I went to RSC and they gave me replacement pins which was a nice touch (but still looked like I was bothering then lol) as local ad wanted 50$ …

Brussels city center is not nice, never felt safe. While avenue Louise is a posh area with fancy stores, its also an easy target area for thiefs. was a post not long ago about European cities, London Paris Brussels etc; all have gone downhill with regards to overal security. very sad times.

Thank you, I know the chances of recovering it are slim, but it is worth taking every shot.

The watch itself is not irreplaceable but the 20 years of wear and tear from my father's wrist are.

Your last line says it all, be aware of the risks, it should never happen, especially on your doorstep but sometimes these things do happen.

Take care and stay safe

Thank you very much, this is very helpful, I did not know they had a service center so close, it is literally on Avenue Louise. I will give them a call.

Thank you, I agree, our best hope is that the police find him, then it might pop up for service eventually but I know the odds are not in our favor...

If I dont have any luck with the RSC in Brussels I will try to reach Rolex Switzerland as you suggested.

Sorry to hear. it’s never a good fellow to be robbed in your own home. We all work hard for our purchases, whether Rolex or anything.

People are hungry etc or drug addicts, but no reason to attack people.

Hope you can find a replacement! or original..

I’m really sorry to hear this. I hope the watch can be found though. Not only for sentimental reasons but also hopefully the thief can be put behind bars for life! Your dad is fortunate to suffer only scars and a big shock but if events like these are not stopped lives are gonna be taken away. Stay safe!

I hope your Dad is ok, that's a shit thing to happen especially to an older gent. Brussels is a nice town too, just goes to show.

A loony ex legionnaire mate of mine liked to spend a few weeks each Winter in the Dam smoking weed and kicking back. His first stop when getting off the train at Damrak was a knife shop. Bought a blade, carried it and put it in the bin when he left. Every time.. Pulled it once in many years of going, it had the desired effect. Give your Dad a hug from me, really sorry to hear this.. :(

I'm not suggesting your Dad should be cutting about with a blade going all Yakuza but a pepper spray or a storm whistle might be handy?

My hope for the thief is that he dies screaming with no painkillers nearby.

Absolute scum, the world over.

At the end of the day though, your dad's health (and life) is worth far more than a watch, so I'm glad he's OK.

Thank you all for your kind words.
I managed to speak to the RSC and forwarded all the documentation from the watch and the police report to them.
Hopefully it shows up one day and I can update this thread with good news!
