Anyone else committed to no alcohol for January?

Right here Eddie!

Imbibed pretty heavily in December and figured I'd take January off. Traveling a bit through the month for work and pleasure, so it'll be tough to not drink socially but I need to get back into optimum shape.

I don’t drink Alcohol, but for those of you that do, and you take on this commitment, I wish you all the best!

I'm no longer a big drinker, excluding last night of course.

Maybe a few glasses of wine on the weekend, but if friends show up it become game on!

I just want to see if I can get into Jesse shape. When I do, I'll be posting triple the amount of shirtless photos that he does.

(Bravo Jesse, as you are in killer shape)

Instead of one month, go for 6 months to a year. That's when you really get to experience the benefits better and may not drink again.

It’s a good thing Jesse is an anomaly. If not this place would be full of shirtless men and gorgeous families instead of hairy out of focus wrist shots with feet in the picture.

I went the last 25+ years drinking 2-3+ drinks daily. Last year, I gave up drinking, except for holidays and big events. I drank ~10 times in 2022. It was a great solution for me (best of both worlds with a huge decrease in consumption while still enjoying at times w/ friends and family) and will keep it going in 2023. Happy New Year’s, all!

I did it every year.

And it’s amazing. I’m a huge proponent of it. Lends to amazing benefits and a great way at to kick start the year.

This year it’s a bit different for me as I’ve mostly stopped altogether. So dry January isn’t much more than a month in the mix.

I did drink Christmas Day and I forgot how to drink. Didn’t eat much, drank like I used to. It didn’t go well. Lmao. To say the least. But I got it out of my system, that’s for sure. And I’ve minimal desire to drink again. What a story that day was. All good. But dang, what a day.

Huge proponent of Dry January and wish all those attempting it good luck. It’s a great feeling of accomplishment along with a number of other great benefits.

I drink in moderation (mostly), all year long.

I’ve never understood the concept of cleansing or whatever it is but I certainly don’t mean to disparage anyone who chooses to. I know it wouldn’t work. To each their own.

That’s enviable.

Was talking to a friend last night as she was drinking a glass of wine. I knew I’d love a glass. But I’d like it so much, I’d want another. And then one more after that. And then I’d just be trying to keep it going.

And then I’d try and recreate that again tomorrow. And the next day.

To those that can enjoy a beer or two, or a glass or two, that’s super. Wish I could.

Not sure how you don’t understand cleansing though. It’s the same as cleaning anything out. And make no mistake, alcohol, even in moderation, is a poison. So taking some time off naturally allows your body to heal and recuperate. If your body is constantly fighting off the poison, it’s hard for it to perform it’s other functions. Simple as that.

Thank you for explaining this. I’m not sure I agree with it entirely. I guess maybe as with most things it depends on who you are.

I reckon the body does a pretty good job of cleansing itself on its own. Obviously anything taken to extremes might require more extreme measures.

In my mind, cleansing is just the opposite of overindulging and it maybe isn’t the healthiest way to go.

Again, to each their own, and whatever works for you works

I’m with you. If it works for you, it works.

My contention is only that the body has a tough enough time staying healthy. Sugar, alcohol, smoke, etc. it all takes away from the bodies ability. Even if just slightly.

And don’t get me wrong. I think drinking is super. If it didn’t mess up my digestion as much as it does, and I didn’t contend with gout, I’d definitely be enjoying myself with a few right now.

But I certainly do advocate taking breaks. Even from food. I think a good fruit and smoothie cleanse is great from time to time. But as you say, to each their own.

I'm not a big drinker (a glass or two of wine a couple of times a week with dinner) and have lived for fifty years with a non-drinker. Last night we toasted the new year with a glass of eggnog each; mine had a shot of rum. I have no reason to stop drinking in January.

What the heck sign me up. Haven’t been drinking that much anyway. Probably had fewer drinks in 2022 than any year in last 10.

Coming up on 3 years since my last drink. 1 is too many and 2 is never enough sorta guy unfortunately. Life has certainly taken on a new meaning since I ended my relationship with alcohol.

I was a light drinker as a young man, seldom beyond a beer or two.

I quit on a bet in 1992, my 30th birthday. And did not drink again until 2015.

So, I comfort myself by saying I have a liver that is effectively half my age.

I would have a tough time taking off a month that has the NFL in it, but plan to take off from the day after the Super Bowl until our anniversary in mid-April, as I've done many times.

I'm weird. But I'm over it.

That was me in college. I couldn’t understand how people could have one beer. I loved drinking and drank every day. Some people are wired differently as you mention. I did a month off challenge during the Ford administration and haven’t had a drink since. I am pretty sure if I had a drink today I’d be back to my college ways tomorrow.
