Going grey and need to decide which?

So ive decided to go grey instead of "building relationships". Now I am conflicted between two watches - Sub 126610LV and "Coke" 16710.

Coke is obviously used, but is in excellent condition and as the seller claims never been polished. Sub (2020) is also lightly used, but looks gorgeous. Price for both pieces is almost the same.

Your feedback will be much appreciated. Thank you.

I’d personally wait for the AD- been on the LV list since last year. Paying $6k over retail is another watch.

Moda Facebook group has beat prices I’ve seen.

That's really tough. Are you a Sub guy or a GMT guy?

If the 16710 is the same price as what I've seen LVs going for recently, like $16k...that sounds super high.

I think it's a question of if you want a modern or a vintage. Personally if it's one of my first or even my first 3 luxury watch, I'd go with a modern model.

Have you tried both of them on? They wear quite different.

I've owned them both. Not even close. The new 41mm Subs are so far above and beyond the 16710s. Everything is better, but especially the bracelet. So much more refined. And the ceramic bezel is a winner. I understand the love of the coke, and I swore I would never sell mine, but the rattle and flimsy clasp are not being missed!

The Sub will feel much more significant on the wrist than the 16710. Heavier, more modern, ceramic bezel compared to aluminum that will fade over time. I think you know where I'm going with this.. I got rid of my 5 digit Day Date to get into a 116710LN and have never looked back.

I have both a 16710 and a 41mm sub.

My 16710 is awesome, wears amazing, I feel like it has real history when I put it on with the tritium patina and the bracelet and the rattle. I love that when it was born it was a tool and that hasn't changed. People didn't have phones in their pockets to tell them multiple time zones.

My 124060 is an engineering masterpiece. The bracelet is indestructible, the ceramic bezel is very cool, doesn't age and will last forever. I do however feel that it is a bit 'soul-less' if you get what I mean? Like a cold and clinical assassin.

^^^ Yes, all the above.

The 5-digit feels very dainty in comparison. Make sure to try it on somewhere just to be sure, don't buy simply based on internet pics.

I vote the Sub in this case.

And... stay on those AD faux lists. You never know - then you can either flip for easy profit or sell one of these grey purchases.

Dealing with ADs:
- Get on lists with as many as possible
- When speaking with an AD, never mention the other ADs
- Never show the purchases (AD or grey) to your current AD
- If you're "allocated" a watch, act completely surprised!

Kind of like having a mistress

I definitely agree with this. When I had my 2 modern Subs and my 16570 ExplorerII, I loved having both worlds. The tritium dial and rattly oyster just had a charm about it. I felt that way because I had both new and old. If I had to choose only one experience, I'd go new.

Exactly this.

Besides being two different complications, they wear totally different.

Having owned a few neo-vintage pieces in the past I’d go with the modern watch if it were me.

I would go for the sub. I absolutely love my 124060. Never would sell that watch.

I would go with Sub first and if you don't care for it sell it and pick up the 16710.

I like my LV a lot more than I expected. It's a great GADA watch.

The Sub LV all the way. It's a night and day comparison between a 16710 and 126610. The 16710 will feel like a BB58 in comparison to the new Sub. You may even forget you are wearing the 16710.

If you absolutely love both and can't decide, you'll probably end up owning both, in which case I'd be scoring the best example of the GMT I could get my hands on in the short term and speaking to an AD about the LV.

The LV would definitely be the way to go. It is a great looking watch and relatively new. The only thing you might regret is the grey premium versus waiting for an AD, but you'll have instant gratification versus waiting a long time from an AD.

The 16710 feels way less substantial but is an awesome looking watch. I was surprised at the difference the latest generation GMTs and the 5 digit models in things like bracelet.

I have both a 16710 and 126610lv. I would go with a 126710 in either color selection.

If you’re destined to have both….If the 16710 is outstanding condition, includes b & p, I’d get that first, as the good/complete ones are hard to find. If you’re on a list for the LV, stay on it until it arrives, or you can go grey on that one as well when the time comes.
If it’s a one and only…I’d go LV.

Own the 16710 with 3 bezels and have owned the 12 LV but sold it to my SA. If I would get one, it would be the LV. The new updates on subs and GMTs are much better than the older versions in my opinion. I have saving the GMT for my son.

Don't blame you for going grey.

As others have said. Try them on first. Wear completely different.

What's in your current collection? However, I'd pick 126610LV personally.....

Current collection: 1) Rolex Submariner(116610LV), 2) Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional(311.30.42.30.01.006), 3) Rolex GMT-Master II(126710BLNR), 4) Breitling B01 Navitimer 43(AB0138211B1A1)
