For GMT there's a waiting list for the waiting list

I talked by email with my local AD for prospects of buying a GMT, and they told me there isn't even a waiting list available to be added to. I'm not sure if this is because the GMTs are reserved for VIPs or we really do not currently receive GMTs in our country. I was told I will be considered when the lists are available, but I don't have much hope. I had a pretty insane interaction for buying a >10K watch, Rolex really are marketing geniuses.

I'm sure guys get lucky here and there buts it's a VIP watch, same with the Daytona, spend ten figures on other things or forget about it. Enquiring via email will also get you nowhere unless you're already a VIP.

A Toronto AD told me they get below 30 GMTs annually.

With my VTNR it was the second sent in ten months, first on jubilee. The reality is too few watches for interested clients.

Maybe go in person and see what happens.

To go in person, you need an appointment, so a good reason to make it. I don't really have one... I guess it's done this way so you make appointments to buy other stuff that you aren't really interested in, just to interact in person.

It could be that the list is closed.

Do I really need to spend billions at AD to get a GMT? That's pretty harsh. I only have a six-figure job.

It could be that there is no list. When you're "added to the list" it's just another way of saying "go away."

If you spend $50k the safe swings open and they'll find a GMT. For Daytona the safe combination is $100k.

At my AD this means that they have reached the number of people on the list above which they will add no more. The list will be revised from time to time, some people being taken off for various reasons. This is why I have always made a point of asking at intervals if I have been unable to join a list.

When I wanted to get my 116610LV from them they had a list of 50. Although this was back in 2018, well before the 12 series was introduced, they were confident that not everyone on the Hulk list would end up receiving one. This turned out to be true. I went grey for mine.

The SS BLRO list hit 50 on the afternoon of the day it was announced. I enquired on day two to find the list was closed. This list was revised in my favour in 2020.

No two ADs will do things exactly the same.

No more clients to be added to the existing register of interest for a particular watch.

Waited a year and 5 months, but got my 126710BLNR last month. No other purchase or prior history at AD and I'm not a VIP by any stretch of the imagination. I did stop by the shop every three months or so to check on any progress and let them know I was still anxious to purchase the watch.

Go in.
After my first visit to an AD with no spend history I got "the call" 6 weeks later.

Not going to get anywhere via email.

I suspect ADs are starting to have to make more than one phone call to find a buyer for some of the allocated pieces.

I was in Bucharest last summer for 3 weeks. They didn’t seem to have very much available at the Chronolink locations. I tried searching for grey dealer stores but was unsuccessful.

My AD/Boutique really keeps lists despite what many people here believe. I was told early on that their bogey is not putting anyone on a list unless they believe they can deliver that watch in two years or less.
Since they only sell Rolex, how you get on that list is a bit more abstract.

Rolex has an enviable market position. And brand awareness. Definitely.

ADs however determine their own allocation processes. Think of it as a tender process. They choose who they allocate the contract to.

Thanks, but I don't think I would ever resort to the grey market. It's a trap perpetuated by the ADs themselves in my opinion. If i can't buy retail, then so be it.

The ten figures I wrote above was a joke, thought it would be obvious, as in you need to spend a lot for a GMT.

Every AD is different. Doesn't sound like you'll get anywhere with who you're dealing with. Time to look elsewhere. Good luck.

Do go for an appoitment, look at other watches, talk watches in general and have a free coffee which they will give you. I emailed my AD with initial interest and they basically asked me to come and try some models out and talk. Turned out to be 1hr visit. :)

In Feb 2021 my both ADs told me they no longer accept people on the list for BLNR & BLRO as it makes no sense considering the level of interest.

I was not considering a TT GMT but I made a 'mistake' and tried the CHNR they had on display, it's really a different piece then SS ones. Asked about that, got confirmation I can be on the list and got it 18months later. This was at the moment I had 0 purchase with this AD.

Two weeks after confirmation of being on the list for CHNR I got the call that they have another SS piece I asked about and bought it (Exp2 21 series, just last batch before the 22 replaced it). 6 months later they also delivered the 2nd piece I wanted (DJ31 mint green, fluted with jubilee for my wife). So, 2 pieces in 6 months, not bad for 0 previous purchases.
