Day-Date stolen in Denmark, recovered in Greece

Story here (in Greek language)

Police in Athens, Greece recovered earlier this week a stolen Rolex Day-Date with baguette diamond hour markers and diamond-paved bezel.

The watch was reportedly brought for service few days ago at the local RSC of Rolex Hellas in downtown Athens, Greece. The person who brought the watch in was its owner, a 35-yo female, Albanian national.

Staff at RSC did the customary database run and guess what... That particular piece was part of the haul when a jewelry store had been broken in on November 13th, 2017 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The owner of the watch when questioned replied that she originally purchased the piece in Albania for a very reasonable price and never thought at the time it could be part of stolen goods....

It would be interesting to know if she could supply details of who she bought it from.

Cliche, but buy the seller. Hopefully she'll have some type of recourse if picked up at an established grey but I doubt that is the case.

The story in English language reported here.

Hard to believe that the last owner of the timepiece did not think the DD may have been stolen goods... Such a piece at a very low price w/o box & papers should ring alarm bells. Few people in Albania have the ability to buy such a piece anyhow (comparatively speaking, to other E.U. countries).

Pretty interesting the story on Pink Panthers gang and their heists over the years (one of which was that robbery in Copenhagen back in November 2017)...

I just read their wikipedia page. Amazing how they can rob for millions and only get 6-10 years.

I don't understand this (the last sentence at the bottom): ''Today, there is little activity from the group. One potential reason for this is that States within the EU will be punished at greater degrees for tolerating this activity''.

How can a country/state/... be punished (by whom?)? Punished how? No one ever tolerated this. Whoever wrote that doesn't make any sense.
