Prices Increase

Hello,

There are rumors in Italy that AP will increase from 1.9.21 again the prices, on average +5%. Any similar news in other countries?
Let's see tomorrow if this is confirmed

you don't think the resellers will follow, as long as demand stays strong?

Wow, 5-9% is steep. AP is probably trying to push it through now so we all forget about it once the Fall releases are announced.

Don't worry all, it's 'transitory' as Messr's Powell & Co argue.

Oh they will no doubt. Was just joking.

I am not a fan of these increases. They are steep and happen all the time. I am not saying you shouldn't increase prices. Of course companies need to, but stepping-up prices by 5-10% every half-year is upsetting in my opinion, especially when you can't buy the product. So you are on this list for years, and all you do is see the price step-up...

I know it's the game but still, I find it ridiculous.

I bought my blue ROC chrono in Europe in 2017 for €23.6k
If I apply a 9% increase to current prices that's €33.1k

Seriously? €10k in 4 years for the same product.

I bought a Vacheron Overseas the same year, the price didn't move by a cent. It's true Vacheron came out high in 2016 with the price point of the new line of overeas but then kept it flat, and the rest of the trinity caught-up since. But I think I prefer that.

With the AP moves, I feel being taken for a fool.

They should keep increasing prices until grey margin is crushed.

Lol!

Price in grey/secondary market will go up too, the consumer like us are the one that have to pay for it.

Grey/secondary market will be here forever.

No that's not how pricing works.

Right now there's a large delta between market price and what the watch actually sells for. If AP charges closer to market, that demand at the top drops off and is swallowed by then. The rest of the demand sits under the curve.

Actually every time AP has increased the pricing the grey dealers have passed that increase onto the consumer.

Do prices generally increase globally, or just for certain markets?

Here's what I'm seeing based on a handful of references I wrote down prices for earlier:
  • Largest increases are on the Jumbo (8.3%) and Code Perpetual (6.4%)
  • Most core Royal Oaks are in the 4-6% range
  • ROO and Code 3-hander / Chrono had the lowest increases in the 2% range

Do you think this kind of price increase has impact on older/discontinued RO models? (Theoretically, they will go up too on grey market).

Have any of the discontinued models gotten cheaper the past 2-3 years? Everything is going up right now.

True. But I’m talking about the impact of this specific 5-9% increase made by AP today 1/9/2021.

15407st has the highest % increase, 18.38%. I compare the CHF rate. 53,300 > 63,100.

I was already shocked by the 15450 which jumped up with 5k euro compared to end of 2019 and last year. Now another one.

I informed at 2 ADs for a watch that isn't THAT popular (at least I think so) but I was a bit 50/50 on the price to be honest compared to in demand models, it's too close.

Are you new to watches?

There are no watches to buy, so your logic doesn't make sense or work.
