A nail catch is pretty significant, would bother me. A scratch would not.

Stop sweating the small stuff and start enjoying wearing your watch. I have a watch that I only wear on special occasions and very carefully. I’ve worn it maybe less than 20 times and only in evenings. It’s got scratches I’ve no idea where they come from. You’ll get a lot more bigger scratches down the road, don’t drive yourself crazy.

Hate to say it, but it's probably you. Rolex has impeccable quality control, and if you can barely find it without the right light, they would have definitely found it with a 5x loupe prior to it leaving the factory.

Wear your watch and enjoy it. If you are now 100% soured by the fact that there is a nick in the steel case, put it in the safe or sell it, because it's only going to get worse from there. But give it a few weeks, because it'll pick up a thousand little nicks and scratches and swirls you don't remember doing. I've had my GMT about 4 months now and haven't babied it, and I'm amazed at the little tiny scratches it picks up all over the case and bracelet. But remember that that's also what makes the watch unique to you. If you can't handle it, buy a Seiko and wear the crap out of it (Editors note: I love my Seikos...)

That strikes me as the kind of mark that comes with normal wear, and is also one of the most common areas to get it without realizing it. That sharp edge on the outer-facing side of the watch makes it quite vulnerable. Regardless of whether or not it's normal, or whether or not you did it, you will get more marks in that area. IMO, that really makes it questionable if it's worth worrying about. Also, I think it's unlikely an AD would take responsibility for it, but if it bothers you that much, I suppose there's no harm in asking. They might offer to send it to RSC for polishing, but I can't imagine they'd actually take the watch back for a refund or replacement.

Looks like a scrape to the edge of the case - if it bothers you no harm in asking your AD.

or just accumulate more to make that mark disappear

Have you still got stickers on it ?

Personally I'd let it ride; there are just so many Subs out there. It won't affect resale value unless you are planning on leaving it in a safe and never wearing; even then likely not.. Congratulations on the sub and welcome to the forum.

Tough to tell but from the largest photo looks like there may be more nicks in the same location? Did the case get dragged along a rough surface? Strange.

Picture will go a long way here. However, I doubt the AD will even do anything if you bring it in.

Definitely not normal. However its easily fixable. The AD will assume it was you that did it even if you didnt because you didnt bring that to there attention before you walked out of the store. I would just wear it, your going to get more and have it addressed when you do your first service.

How can something on the case be addressed?

And how much would this devalue the watch by?

Would you take it back? Help.

The only way to correct that is by polishing it. When professionally done at the RSC it wouldn’t automatically, differentially “devalue” the watch.

The resale value you would get in the future would be about the same with an unpolished case and the small dings you’re going to collect in addition to this tiny blemish (I can’t even call it a ding).

IMHO, the future sale value will be more affected by the market circumstances of your sale. That is, if the current trend in upward movement in SS resale values continues, then you’ll be just fine.

Got two dings on my D-blue and have no idea how or when they got there. Enjoy your watch op.
True. Within a couple of weeks after picking up my Bluesy, I found some very faint scratches, which were driving me nuts.

I took in into my AD, not to blame them, but asked if I should get them polished out. The in-store watchmaker told me what everyone else is saying, you're going to get a lot more scratches and to not worry about it. He said the 904L steel is a softer form of stainless and will scratch slightly easier.

I don't even notice the scratches anymore.

Yes it can just happen even while you wipe a newly washed watch with an optic grade wipe.

A casual glance scratched mine Jim.

In comparison charts at my factory 316L is rated to a max of 95 Rockwell and 904L to a max of 90.
These ratings can vary from 85 -95 for 316L and 80 - 90 for 904L so 904L could be harder in any given mix.

In any event his hardly makes one softer than the other or 904L buttery soft as Rashid has suggested.

The modern Rolex owner, I’d leave it in the safe, or remove the stickers and enjoy Your watch, remember it’s just a mass produced ss watch

I'd say that's a .01% reduction in value. However, leaving the sticker on until it is moldy is a .8 reduction in value. Sneezing on your watch is about a .001% reduction.
