I would like to have just one but would need at least 2, one everyday and one for formal use.
If forced to keep only one it would be my GMT 16710 because with 3 bezels and 2 bracelets it is the most versatile Rolex ever.

I understand collecting. It’s just not for me. I enevitably put on the watch I enjoy the most and the others collect dust. So I sold everything but the Explorer, which, for my needs, is the perfect one-and-only. Of course, if I was wealthy beyond my imagination, the story might be different...but then again it might not.

Perhaps my SD43 but that would be a mistake. Too many great watches and still regularly worn.

I would have to agree, my friend.
I actually have contemplated this...but when my mind starts working the problem, one always turns into two, then three...well, you get the picture. I have tried to be more discriminating with my purchases, in that any watch I own or is on my to buy list could theoretically qualify as a one and only. |

I'm down to 3, could possibly get to 2, but 1 just doesn't work for me

I sold my 14600M, 16613, and other watches for a 16600. I wear it on Everest band 24/7 and have no regrets. I travel a lot and the watch flies under the radar.

I think 3 would be my ideal collection.
1 wouldn’t be enough variation and I’d always be looking for another. |

This is something that's been on my mind for over a year now, considered selling them all and getting a PM Sub or an AP but then I think i would miss not having a SS Sub.

I've definitely thought about it. Not sure if it would be anything I own now. I still am up in the air as to what I'd pick for a "one and only". A Daytona would definitely be up there.

Ever just want to sell them all and just roll with one?
I’m at one at the moment, I’ve had many different amounts and combinations. I’m sure I won’t stay with one for long but in some ways I’m more content than I was when I had more. I was always thinking about the next flip, purchase or something like that. I’m thinking of getting another Pelagos and keeping that as my one.

Platona is my grail! My wife keeps telling me to sell most of my watches and get it but I just can’t get myself to give up quantity, even if it’s for quality!

If I got out of the hobby I'd surely reduce my collection but I could never be a one watch guy. I could probably get down to 5: Hentschel H2 wedding gift from my wife, my late fathers Citizen, a pair of Rolexes, and a beater for work. I am admittedly a bit envious of those who are able to own and wear just one watch.

One watch wearer for quite sometime. Now my collection has grown and tbh, I could close my eyes and pick one of my SS Rolex pieces and be good with it alone. That said, I love having variety and feel lucky to be able to have options every morning.

Yes! I am on this path. Had an explorer II that I thought was the one but I never wore it... Go figure...

I have from time to time, but prefer just adding them over time.

I did this very thing but not by choice. About 4 years ago my wife and I had our house broken into while at work. My nice collection of various brands, Tag Heuer, Omega, Breitling, Seiko, and 2 of my grandfathers watches found and stole by these a-holes. I was wearing my Kermit, which I usually do, got the call from my wife and rushed home. Thankfully, the house wasn't ransacked, but all the tards could put in their pockets were gone, including my Kermit's warranty card. I had all the valuable watches insured, which I was made whole again but decided against replacing them and stuck the money into the college fund for the kids. Still have my Sub and wear it daily. I do miss my grandfathers watches though.

I did sell them all with a view to just rolling with one after i picked up the DSSD.
I kept a nice Omega along with a cheap Seiko though. But the collection is growing again. Including the cheap Seiko(which i can't seem to find anywhere), i'm up to five as of the other day. But this time i have much more useful diversity in the collection. So i suppose i have failed miserably in the quest to strip it back to one watch. |

Yup! I can’t decide if I should sell 1 of my 2 off sooner or later based on the current climate. Until last Summer I never owned two luxury pieces at the same time. I now find myself w/2 Rolex watches that I never dreamt possible years ago when I became a watchaholic. I feel that twinge of guilt or buyers remorse when 1 sits in the safe 90% of the time. Financially it would make the most sense to sell my LVc but it’s a special piece to me for a number of reasons. Hence, I’ll probably take a BIG hit when I sell the DJ. I do like the thought of one keeper and one for flipping but I have champagne tastes on a beer budget I’m afraid when it comes to watches. I have the addiction illness.

I think about it all the time.
I would love to do this. And I just might. Edit: well, maybe 2. (or 3). Three might be ideal.
