I wish they were bigger. I find myself wanting models that aren't my favorite just because they are larger.

The best wearing modern sport Rolexes to me are: DaytonaC and 39 mm Explorer 1. Slimmer lugs, slim profile. 5 digit Subs and GMTs have this as well.

Also try the Yachtmaster, especially the RG Oysterflex. It has very similar lugs to Daytona.

I like my watches 40mm supercase or larger. Anything smaller gets lost.

I like to rotate my 44mm DSSD for a weekend and casual time. The watch is totally different from my other 40mm and is fun to wear. DSSD is definitely have a wrist feel and presence and is not boring for sure.

I love the Blancpain FF but the 45 simply is to big for my '7+ wrist so that model is a no for me even though i love the watch i know i will look like a fool. Wear what you want who cares what others think is what some say. Well, nobody in their right mind would wear a suit thats 2/3 sizes to big. You can if you want but you will look like a clown.

I believe 80% of men have a wrist size between 6.5 and 7.5 so the current sweet spot 40mm will work for most just fine. If you have a smaller wrist take advantage on the vintage market. Lots of cool smaller sized watches can be had for a bargain.
Agree.

I have a 8 3/8 inch wrist (I'm 6'4") and my 40 mm sub looks comically small. I wish they'd go larger. Sweet spot is 43 mm to 45 mm.

I’ve personally never understood the obsession around hitting a certain diameter. 40mm is very popular nowadays but some 40s look small and some 40s look huge. To me, it matters more if the piece is well proportioned and sits well on the wrist based on its ergonomics. My largest watch is actually my dress watch (a 43x47mm AP millenary) but it sits smaller than my 40mm Rolex sport models. Diameter is just a number!

They don't on everyone's wrist. For me the 6 digit GMT wears more comfortable that a 6 digit Submariner. Not even close in terms of comfort of the 5 digit Subs I've had. The only 6 digit that wears similar to a 5 digit on me is the Explorer. I'll also add the 42mm EXPII is more comfortable on me that the current Submariner or GMT. YMMV

Yes. It's unnecessary. Anything bigger than the 5 digit equivalent is too big.

I think you are more laid back about these things in America. Of course you can wear what you want but you risk having people think of you like an idiot that don't understand social codes and what is appropriate and respectful for the occasion.

The current size of the sports models is just about right.
I can’t imagine a smaller sub, gmt and Daytona. It’ll look comical.

Maybe the moderators should open a safe space section on this forum. This whole "i feel offended" thing is starting here as well. Saw a post where some guy felt offended cos some other guy said yellow gold is vulgar. OMG what a world we are living in.

You can find the perfect size in the DJ family. Sub/gmt/etc. tend to be larger because of the large bezel; the dials actually are not that large. Much smaller and they are hard to read

I would love a 40mm SD43. Nothing changed, just the size.

Minus the red text or perhaps a Modern Red Sub would do the job.

Europeans are just different in how they present themselves. There is no right or wrong way, and I’m not saying that there is a better presentation here than there, or vice-versa, just pointing out there’s a difference.

This lends itself to watches as well. I think Americans prefer larger watches, generally speaking.

What I see on this forum correlates with my view.

I think modern Rolex watches are too big indeed, or at least out of proportion. The fat lugs make modern cases look like unrefined blocks of steel. Have a look at Tudor and it becomes much worse, it's as if they placed a movement on a steel chip, placed a sapphire glass on top, and called it a day.

To blame for this phenomenon is the way people wear watches nowadays. Wrist sizes have stayed more or less the same, often they get fatter as people age. However, nowadays watches tend to be worn closer to the back of the hand than on the actual wrist. Alas, watches tend too look relatively smaller at this position than on the actual wrist.

I don’t get why people want small watches. No offense but it drives me crazy when someone says for example that the DJ should only be a 36mm watch. Any bigger and it loses its portions. Really? I have a 7/12 inch flat wrist and the 36 looks like a 31mm for most 7 inch wrist. I’m glad they have bigger sizes. If not I wouldn’t be into rolexes. I’m not a huge SS model fan. Even the new DJ41 wore small on me. And that’s the consensus of the TRF. They all recommend me to the DJll, and I couldn’t be happier.

You can place me in the common camp of thinking the lugs should be trimmed down a bit (and maybe shave a mm off the thickness). Other than that, I think everything else is proportionally perfect.

I agree with your sentiments.

But I also I actually think that when people have fat wrists, if they wear larger watches, it looks even worse.
