I get that they had bigger fish to fry. I'm not a "triple incoming" kinda guy!

C'est la vie. Major metro area, no previous relationship, only modest jewelry repair business in the interim. That's the way it goes these days. No sense tying up money or thinking about it anymore. Time to move on.

I am thinking they can get deposit from all potential buyers, and earn bank interest on it.

Imagine if you had that deposit with an AD that went BK? Smart to pull out.

Man. That’s a lot of dough.. and very risky too. A legit AD will only take a small deposit at most.

In a competitive market I can see how paying a 50% deposit SHOULD put you higher on the priority list...but things are wild lately.

Deposits are scams ADs use to tie up our money. Imagine if they got deposits for 100-200 people! And work that money in their business for 2.5 years or even put it in a bond for that time, they end up with thousands of dollars!!

I would report them to Rolex USA as it’s against rolex policy!

It's a shame they didn't source you one but it's the game these days. I consider myself about as lucky as a lottery winner to have gotten one. I moved and had to establish a relationship with a new AD. My wait was about 18 months but I'm in a small market.

Haha sorry you didn’t get your watch. But great post. Never seen an incoming deposit returned. A shame they couldn’t deliver. But that’s the world we live in. Hope you find another somewhere somehow.

Yes, that was my main concern. For much of the 2 1/2 years, interest rates were really low, so the "cost" of the deposit seemed worth the opportunity to get the watch.

Yeah, this is the state of the market, especially for new customers in large metro areas.

To be honest, I don't think that deposits violate some grand Rolex rule.

It doesn't bother me. I see sweet incomings every day here and I'm happy for everyone that can get this (or any other) beautiful watch.

Thanks. Was just trying to put a light spin on a first world "problem." It surprisingly feels good to no longer wonder if/when my watch might be delivered. Time to move on.

I'm afraid you have missed out on a perfect opportunity to acquire your chosen watch. Had you written direct to Rolex enclosing a copy of that receipt they would have undoubtedly arranged a special order specifically for you.
The reason I am confident on this... I've been told by more than one AD that customers who legitimately complain are very often able to jump the queue.
I wish you had told us of your intentions before you pulled the pin.
Anyway, sounds like you have a nice watch already.

Well, they collected money with the intention of not delivering and didn’t refund the money until you asked for it!! That’s dirty business!!

Sorry you had to go through this!!

I have waited over a year at Razny trying to get a hulk, family are previous customers who have bought jewelery for the past 10 years or longer. They haven't seem to really care about me as a customer, maybe because I'm a bit younger. Got fed up and had no problem at that point going somewhere else and getting used.

And to think that there's good chance that they had one in the back when they gave you your $$ back.

A few weeks ago I went to the Oak St Location and a sales rep offered me a piece way over retail , claiming that it was pre owned , it had all the stickers and was BNIB ,I didn't get the details but I bet that the warranty had their name too.

I don't know if they sell pre owned pieces , but I lost all interest as soon the guy asked a 10K premium for a NIB watch with the story that they bought it pre owned, I have nothing against grey but IMO you're either an AD or a grey dealer .

I didn't have a Daytona when I ordered it. So glad I didn't wait for this one. I think I still wanted it because, 1) it's a spectacular SS piece IMO, and 2) it was my first Daytona love and I wanted to complete that journey. Oh well...

I think it's especially hard to build a relationship in a big money city with an AD. I know of several locals, myself included, who now fish far from home. And I used to walk or ride my bike to this store!

The final, final straw was when they offered me a used CHNR TT for more than MSRP. At that point, I realized it was never, ever going to happen. Well, I kinda knew from all the PMs I had gotten over the years, but that was the final nail in the coffin, so to speak.

It's too bad, as they also sold Pateks and it's likely I could have bought more watches from them than I even thought 3 years ago. But ya gotta know when to fold 'em...
