Why is Yacht Master II so underrated?

I have a big wrist and have been wanting to add YM2 SS to my collection for a long time. Everytime I get closer to pulling the trigger I ask myself why are these not so popular and relatively easier to get?

They are called ClownMaster for a reason ... they are hideous and hard to read as a watch

If you like it, go for it. You won't owe an explanation to anyone (other than your wife).

I think that the reason they don't speak to everyone is that they are a bit much. With its big "YACHT MASTER II" text and many elements, it's a watch that stands out.

its less that its underrated and more that its loud, big, has a regatta timer, and large text on the bezel.

Doesnt necessarily mean anything other than the fact that those who want that is a much smaller subset of Rolex buyers.

You like it and want one but aren’t getting it because you think it’s unpopular?

If i’m in a position to buy something I want, I’ll generally not ask for other people feelings and thoughts on it....
It’s for you, no one else, get it

I wonder if they could tone it down. Make a 40-42mm chrono, not as bulky or flashy. Like older regata yachttimers.

Your money your wrist
If you want it ... buy it!

Personally, not for me due to many reasons listed previously but everyone is different with different tastes and styles

I own a YG YM2. It screams "F-U" (watch) to everyone. It's obnoxious, 44mm (Big) and just right in your face with a blue bezel. What's not to like? Not many people feel comfortable wearing it...I love it, when people stare. It's as said above, an acquired taste.

no... it screams YACHTMASTER II in giant text

Is says F-U in a much more low key way by comparison.

They may not be staring, they may be reading the text from across the room

I like to read the text across on other YM2s...At times they're wearing a fake one (Notice the R. It's always messed in the fake one)

I think multiple reasons (some of which are mentioned on this thread).

It’s a radical departure from more established Rolex designs and quite a polarising watch.

It has a complication that is unlikely to be used by most of its owners (and therefore seen as unnecessary by most). It’s very specialised as a result,

Personally, I don’t find it particularly pleasing on the eye or easy to read.

For me it’s a no, but many love it

Hey I like it but it is simply too big for me wrist, it’s not that I do not find it a cool weekend watch but I cannot pull off a 44 mm simply that

And the complication brings a large premium, so it's very expensive and useless to 99.9% of the population.

Never thought of the YACHT-MASTER II but now looking at other models none has this big writing on the bezel
