It needs an OF + Glidelock version.

Hi sorry for the slow reply. I bought it off the shelf at the ad. I tried one on last year and was in mind not to get it before I tried it on but when it was on my wrist I had to have one. I wish I knew how to post a picture.

It needs Glidelock for sure. Same could be said for all Rolex but ++for bigger pieces.

I’d like to see lugs profile updated a little and 22mm width (AND GL!)

Owned 116680 before, its a beautiful big watch, absolutely loved it, well, I sold it and purchased 116509, the reason was it doesn't fit my suit, purely personal choice.

Guy Fieri wears one, I think that pretty much says all that needs to be said about the YM II

I really like mine but wish it had a glidelock rather than pretty useless fliplock.

Rolex makes a great technical watch movement in the YMII but gets crucified for making a watch too far away from anything they previously have made in the last 3 decades. A countdown timer is all new for Rolex so it shouldn’t be dismissed so easily as totally useless. Then the same Rolex herd mentality will bitch that Rolex design is too stagnate and doesn’t make anything new or exciting. It’s the demographic of Rolex. The take away is Rolex doesn’t have the chops to truly make a watch significantly different from anything they have been known for in the last 4 decades or Rolex demographic secretly doesn’t really want them to try?
The Skydweller is a new kid that gets mixed reviews but it still has the bones of a Datejust so it’s not really a different look from 10 feet away. A larger Sub and you get the SD 50th but that watch took some shots for combining a cyclops on a larger SD. DSSD and that watch took a lot of shots for its excessive labeling. A bracelet change and some loose their minds as if it was the end of the world and the watch is now ruined in one color combo but the same watch isn’t ruined by the bracelet change in a different color combo. See a Rolex pattern here??
If Rolex does make a significantly new watch, will it ever be accepted or does different always get immediate push back? Has the idea of the “Rolex look” painted them in a corner from designing anything really new?

I’m agree with you.
I have a SS model and now I want gold model.
It’s a different Rolex and many Rolex lover have the idea that Rolex must preserve the look.
Also for me the only minus my blue SkyDweller have it’s his DJ look. Maybe Rolex do a better job in SkyDweller case if put it on a different case or have a different look. But I think they want to stay on safe side.
So, YES it’s a different kind of Rolex watch. Simple, take it or leave it!

The namesake complication is overly intrusive and takes over the entire watch. It's also an extremely specific/narrow-purpose complication.

I hope it gets an update soon.

There's lots to like about it; the size , the colour, the boldness (vs understatement of many Rolex watches).

No.1 though is I do think it needs Glidelock, then a 22mm width bracelet, and maybe a subtle update of the case especially at the lugs to make it a little more up to date.

The repeated moans about the pointless countdown complication is missing the point entirely because no Rolex function is really necessary at all. The pointless complication of the YM II is to be celebrated.

I saw a yellow gold today in Padstow, Cornwall, UK. Goodness me, it’s striking. Not an introvert’s watch but kind of cool - if you have a decent boat. I’m fact I’ve seen more Rolex in the wild here in the uk than any other trip. YM II 116613ln, 5 digit sub on a strap (might’ve been fake), James Cameron, sea dweller 4k. Oh and a black bay 41 diver.

But guys, the complication is an amazing countdown timer with flyback. It's more useful than a daytona to me !

For these two points in my opinion.
1. Aesthetically he is not graceful
2. It is a watch with a considerable diameter
