You know who makes this strap? I like the look a lot.
I've seen the pic before I think.

Yes, that is a beautiful strap. Matches the 372 nicely.

After driving myself mad, I have gone for the 233 and am just waiting for it now, cant wait. Now just going to get obsessed with the different straps I can get.

Now just need my Rolex Daytona 116509 or 116519 and then my watch collection will be complete. I also have the iwc big pilot and iwc portifino.

Congrats James...

The 233 is a great choice to your mighty fine collection...

I love the versatility of the 233 with straps. Here are a few of my fav straps to go with the 233: the original black tunnel strap, OEM black buffalo, OEM JV in tan, OEM gator in burgundy; Ted Su French Ammo with dive buckle... the list goes on and on...

Great choice! You couldn't go wrong either way, but the 233 is imho the best balance between the "spirit" of OP as well as being very easy to EDC and it will go with everything

Strap-wise, the fun start now Let me say that you can't go wrong with Rich (Toshi straps UK) - his stuff is tops

Oh and I'm sure you'll get a kick out of this...

I decided on a 311 over the 233 - a 275 would have worked also, but found the 311 first. I like the extra complication.

It's funny, as the owner of the 233, I should be the one* to give you the most important info on the 372...

The 372, although labeled "1950" by OP, is most likely the first "Luminor" case produced by OP that is a literal copy of the venerable 6154, aka Egiziano piccolo... The sides of the 372's case is sharply curved (a gentle "crease", for lack of a better term), just like the 6154 (and to a lesser extent, the 6152). The 6152/1 has no such crease and is closer to OP's "1950" cases. The only glaring difference is that the 6154 had no Crown Guard. A total of 30 6154s were made in 1954, all with the Rolex 618 caliber.

While almost all 3646 (Radiomirs) had steel hands, the 6152/4 series used brass; hence the use of gold hands in the 372. furthermore, the 6154 were equipped exclusively with Radium dials - hence the off-colors on the 372 Perhaps the most interesting difference of the 6154 was it's overall height of ~15mm vs. the 6152/1's 19mm(!) Maybe one of you 372 owners could let us know the approximate thickness

*Considering they were made exclusively for the Egyptian Navy, one would think that Ahmed should be the one writing this... Speaking of Ahmed... YES, the 6154 had a PLEXI crystal...

Disclaimer: The above is my own "observation" and driven by the sleek case alone.
Officially, the 372 is based on the 6152/1 -> Luminor (Tritium paste) / plexi / crown guard / serial # between the lugs / brass hands. OP describes the case as "rounded, cusp-shaped" with "slimmer lugs".

Since I'm asking the 372 owners for data, here is some data back
I just measured my 233 over the center of the dome and it comes out to 17.5mm. That number is fact (I used calipers). I tried to eyeball the actual components and came up with approx. 3.5+8+3.5+2.5 (lower bezel, case, upper bezel, crystal). I also tried to get an approx. via ratios from the photo below with pshop: 3.2 7.7 3.2 3.4...

Last but not least (since we're on the topic of case thickness):
6152................ Case only, 7.4 overall, 16.8
6152/1............................ 7.2, ......... 18.7
6154............................... 5.7, ......... 14.7

So you can forget about the size , don't worry.

I own both watch and i must say 372 is really a stunny pieces the plexiglass is so sexy.

Being said that i found 233 is more pratical for daily use due to it has a 8 days PR only wind it onces a week and it has date plus GMT function for traveling.

If you like the historical feel, this is what Panerai about then 372 is better option.

In this case you can't go wrong with either one. You will love it.

Good luck and hope this help.

Please tell me the name of the strap on the first phot :P

I advise you to try on each multiple times if you haven't already. I was obsessed with the 372 and convinced that was going to be my next purchase...until I tried on the 422 (same watch but with seconds hand). I tried it on multiple times at the local AD and at the end of the day it did not work on my wrist. I am now considering either a 44MM Luminor or the Big Pilot, which wears much smaller than a similar sized Panerai.

In the end the watch will speak to you and you'll know which one to get. If you are like me you will research each to death, but how it makes you feel on your wrist is really the only thing that matters.

Good luck!

Holy thread revival, Batman!

Although OP has made his choice, be interesting to see how the opinions would go “today”.

I’d go 372.

Nick, don’t you dare!
