Excellent candid interview with Baselworld Managing Director
A great interview with some candid thoughts from the new Baselworld boss.
"But people don’t come because Basel hotels are so wonderful and cool and the city is the best place to be in Europe. People come to Basel because Baselworld is in Basel." https://www.qpmagazine.com/long-read...oris-melikoff/

That should kill the rumours. There will be a Baselworld next year, just smaller again from previous years.

IMHO there are far better ways mechanical watch manufacturers could invest the funds. Today, BW is very inefficient financially imho. Not showing at BW and, instead, use those funds for more localized showings. Perhaps one day for influencers / press in various countries at big dealers / branded stores, then the next day (or three) a showing of new timepieces for the public. Added benefit, your getting customers in the door, and they could also buy products on the spot.
As he stated within his interview, hotel costs are insane for BW, and with more manufacturers not showing... Besides, BW does not provide VERY BASIC luxury show features such as live streaming or anything of actual value-added that make BW indispensable. Reminds me of CES where many very high-end luxury product manufacturers have decided to no longer showcase their gear. CES has not really evolved to modern times, and seems neither has BW. JMHO

Not sure on this but we WIS are obviously very watch centric but isn't Baselworld a jewelry show more than just a watch show.

Race to the bottom. As an ordinary hobby collector there is nothing to feel or hold in BW.
