I have mixed feelings about this because of the possibility identity fraud being used with the DL. I can also see the buyer's concern but I would only send a pic of the DL with my DOB covered up and with a black X across the the entire DL to make it harder to duplicate. One's own security is reasonable as well.

I had a friend/acquaintance who was a drug hostage for $10,000 a pop.

He would go to a motel and sit with some very sketchy Colombians with guns while the drug deal went down at a different location, and if everything was fine they would release him. If it didn't go well, ....well that never happened in the time I knew him.

It's getting so that selling/buying a watch these days is getting close to this.

I have previously asked for a drivers licence pic myself and would gladly offer mine. I have nothing to hide.

That worked out in your favour as a “pass on that one”.

I typically ask for a DL and do a google search and everything I can with both buyers and sellers.

As a seller, I never hesitate to give the buyer (if they appear to be bonafide) whatever they need to make them feel secure.
