What is it about Porsche 911 & Rolex

I notice that the two seem to have an inexplicable connection. Is there a history of this or is just that their aesthetics meld well together?

There are better cars and there are better watches. Maybe Porsche and Rolex overlap as they’re both reliable, trustworthy, plenty good enough and well loved?

Enduring classic style, evolutionary change, relatively high end (but not the highest end), and every day usability. IMO.

They share one attribute:
Fairly high repair costs.

Treat them well; they will reward you.

Riden hard and put up wet, not so well.

Many people who buy flashy watches also buy flashy cars.

Let's try not to pretend there are many other reasons..

Next we will say all the "Show me your watch and your..." are not just wealth comparison / brag threads.

Both Rolex and Porsche are appreciated for their quality and timeless looks / history through evolution.
No direct link between the two except that the people who appreciate one will most likely appreciate the other too...

Well put - I am very fortunate to have both and whilst neither can be described as perfect, they tick so many boxes!

Both companies tend to put their spec sheets in the copy machine, set the size to 105% and call it a new product

Are there? I think there are cars as good as, but better?

German engineered cars are the best in the world. Porsche are amongst the best German cars or at least as good as the best Mercedes (I think better than). They say 60% of all Porsches ever built are still out there. You cannot say that about any other German car. They are built to last a lifetime. Others are not, they are built to break and be disposable after 10yrs/120,000 miles. Heck, most modern cars break and are for the bin anytime soon after the manufactures warranty runs out, usually about 6yrs they are all fu**ed in some way.

You can jump into modern 911 (I reference modern being up to 22yrs old (996 onwards)) and drive it across Europe then when you get home, you could go do it again. Try that in an aged Ferrari or similar exotica..

Porsche is great. Rolex is great too.

My thoughts at least.

911 = Submariner, for reasons mentioned.

Never really thought about it before, but makes sense - wow.
