In your opinion, what color is synonymous with Porsche?

For example, Ferrari is synonymous with red. McLaren is synonymous with orange.

I believe their racing colors were historically silver, but if you see them testing road cars, they always seem to be black.
Porsche has produced hundreds of different colors over the years, both factory and paint to sample ("special wishes" back in the day).

I've had white, two blues, yellow, red, two browns, green and now a black one. I was afraid of caring for black paint but the PPF technology is good enough now that I had the whole car wrapped before taking delivery. It's been no problem so far.

They are both “in your face” faux symbols of success when you want to demonstrate a particular image to others.

I had a 2015 Carrera S black on black. The car was soulless and I got rid of it within a year. Would consider a 1980s whale tail, but modern Porsche’s suck.

They're both status symbols that actually perform well.

Lots of status symbols are just trendy nonsense, but both Rolex and Porsche do what they were designed to do and retain value while doing it, which even adds to their mystique.

Two products that remain timeless because of each companies aversion to updating and revamping their product each year to satisfy trends. They are each beautifully evolved and I hope they continue to be so for the duration of my life, they give me joy to look at and experience though the Porsche has been illusive to me for a variety of reasons to this point but it is getting closer ;)

Is it possible some folks desire both because it brings them joy and they could care less what image they present to others?

It’s a stick to the basics philosophy... instead of creating new models all the time, refine and perfect the ones you have.

Have you driven a new Turbo, GT3 or GT2RS? Can't see how they suck lol.

Resistance to technological change is pretty universal, it isn't limited to cars.
When DCT gearboxes were invented, people were upset because they were 'auto' (technically they aren't, but I digress). When the Nissan GTR debuted, people were upset because it had no 'soul'- then it dominated the track and the drags races. All the supercar makers were forced to catch up.

Sure, classic cars are fun to drive, I love a manual gearbox as much as the next guy. But what would I pick for when I want to go bloody fast? Modern cars. 911 TT. 488. Aventador etc.

Right now, people are upset about electric vehicles (myself included), nothing beats the sound of a petrol engine after all (V12 anyone?). I think hybrid EVs are the way forward for now, nothing beats the instant torque. Will consider a hybrid for my next supercar for sure.

The only correlation I can think of between a Porsche and Rolex is...well I would probably get banned if I said it out loud.

Saw this chart a while back on social media and it shows how both of these icons only needed slight adjustments to stand the test of time.

Except that chart doesn’t even remotely line up in terms of period lol

Like many on here, I’ve owned both.

I’ve come close to buying Ferrari’s and Astons, but never quite managed to do it, despite the fact that I prefer both to the Porsche 911 and technically I could afford it. The reason is very simple, I like nice things but I like (a) to use them daily and (b) I don’t want to regret owning them when they either let me down or cost me a fortune when they go wrong.

The same attracts me to Rolex. A premium product that looks and feels great, but can be use daily without worry.

Some people follow their heart, but I’m 20% heart and 80% head, so Porsche and Rolex tick a lot of boxes.

I now also have a Patek and some AP’s which I wear as daily wearers, but I do treat them with a little more care than my Rolex’s.

The 911 is the ‘affordable supercar’, in reality I see it as the the car that sits between Sports Cars and Supercars. I feel the same about Rolex being the ‘affordable premium watch’. The watch that sits between good quality nice watches, and haute horlogerie.

Well said. I agree. I bought mine around 3 months ago and got my Rolex the following week... I’m not sure I picked the right model though, the watch, not the car. I definitely got the right car.
