But I do like it.
Grilled octopus, Lamb chops with fries, yogurt and honey...is my go to lunch.

Edit:
I’ve also been to Vegas since I live there. I would say the vegas one and the one at hudson yards is at the same level and ambiance. There was some bugs with service during the opening months at hudson yards but have since dialed it in.

I genuinely enjoy my meal there every time. I prefer this vs all the other greek places in the city.
Didn't you want to lose weight? Ha ha!

Are we still talking about prices softening?? That’s what happens when the global economy starts to slow. If it continues, will trickle down to Rolex levels too. You wait

Yeah I watched that documentary. Did not manage to reserve Jiro (they don't accept kid) this June and Sushi Saito (they only accept familiar guests) when I was in Tokyo.

How do you find Sushi Nakazawa? Is it good?

I would say sometime in the 2016 is when the watch started to disappear from the window displays.

In mid 2015 I had the choice between a Rolex and a 5712. I chose the Rolex; both second hand and both priced approximately the same. The Rolex had a higher retail price, and it was much more flashier (also a reason), so I went with that.

Seems to depend where and how exactly you define craze...

Where I live you couldn't just buy a blue 5711 when I decided to get one in 2015. However, even as a walk-in w/o any AD relationship you could still get on a wait list w a little effort and get the call within 2-3 years max.

From what I hear the craze started slightly later in the US.

Also try

Sushi Ginza Onodera across from NYC library

Place is good. I think Michelin Star now. Like 5 -10 lunch seatings.

Never eaten at Onodera in New York, but the one in London is risible. (I may also hold a grudge against it for replacing the beloved Matsuri, the last grande dame of Japan's bubble over-exuberance to remain in the city.)

If you're downtown at all, Sushi Nakazawa in the West Village is fantastic. (Edited to say that Raemondo has exquisite taste ;) and that Yasuda is on the list next time I'm in NYC.)

Just a bit of sushi trivia, the London based 3 Michelin star Araki restaurant just lost all 3 stars in the Guide this year. That is a very rare occurrence, Mr Araki has left but still you would think his chosen replacement would hold onto at least 2 of them.

I have visited the 2 star Umu restaurant, some of the best Sushi I've had, caviar topped wagyu and the foie gras ones were exceptional.

If you're travelling with kids I'd give up on finding anywhere famous sushi-wise in Tokyo that will happily accept them. We are in Japan regularly and unless we can take a babysitter, it's our local Sushi no-Midori for the sushi fix.

That said, Daigo is Michelin-starred goodness that is fabulous with kids. We've been numerous times and they've bent over backwards to make us and our barbarous gaijin children welcome. It's not for everyone (it's 'shojin' vegetarian Budhist temple food), but we keep going back again and again and again.

I heard rumours that it was because they didn't have time to sufficiently test between Araki-san's leaving in March and the new guide, but it's uncorroborated.

Although Marty is nowhere near as talented as his 'master', it is definitely still as good as, if not better, than Endo (new recipient of one star), and should have kept at least one and perhaps two stars. The atmosphere now is looser, less stuffy and, yes, less precise and punctilious, which I personally find disappointing. There was a great quote I heard, which said that the magic in sushi is all in that last 5%. The Araki no longer has that 5%. That said, I will still go back as I think it is still probably the best sushi in London, though no longer decisively.

There's also a question of tradition, expectations and, yes, racism - Marty is of Hong Kong origin, and many of the cooked dishes have a definitive Chinese twist to them under his direction which, under the puritanical auspices of the French jury, may have riled a few.

I only went once right when they opened to great fanfare, and they thrust a mailing list sign-up form in my face before I was even seated. Needless to say that is all I remember of the experience, and I haven't been back.

I highly recommend Sushi Yoshitake in Tokyo. They accept my reservation with a kid. Their abalone with abalone liver sauce is the best dish I have eaten in Tokyo

The umami from the different parts of tuna was also memorable. The master dipped his hand into ice buckets before every pressing of the sushi rice. This is one place I will not forget in a hurry.
