Thoughts on Breguet

Nicolas G. Hayek's pride and joy, A man that was well respected. Just curious on your opinions on this brand as I have recently been acquiring about it, starting with this amazing Catalogue that was sent to me.

Great company, fabulous legacy and some really cool looking watches.
I don't have one in my collection yet, but I will someday.

I will own one someday for sure.
Have come close a couple times but just not ready for a watch that dressy
and as nice as their sports line is, it is just not what comes to my mind when
I think of Breguet.

As for Patek, it just doesn't get any better than that.

I have a 3237 handwound chronograph (same movement that Patek based the 3970 on) and love it-very elegant, gorgeous display back to view the movement) all a watch can be.

Great watches--amazing dials--a lot of history. Love their Classique line and their tourbillons are amazing!

Nice design, expensive, "manufacture" claim a bit cloudy

I've never owned a Breguet but I've owned 5 Blancpain pieces, including 3 triple date moonphase watches (2 rose gold & 1 in steel), a white gold chrono and a simple time and date piece in yellow gold - all in all a nice collection. Like its sister company Breguet, Blancpain makes beautiful designs but my personal experience is that the quality of the movements and dials is not what they should be for the price, hence, I no longer own any Blancpains (I can provide very specific examples if anyone is interested, so as not to bore everyone with details, but trust me when I say that these are legitimate quality complaints and not just nit picking...). I can't comment on Breguet's quality but I know they share some movements with Blancpain, which are in turn made by Piguet (Piguet has also supplied other brands as well, such as Chopard, etc.). The point is simply that while they are priced similar to Lange and Patek, it would be a stretch, in my view, to say that all their pieces come from a "pure manufacture" factory and quality issues with other sister brands is something to consider. Their resale value is pretty poor as well. Finally, my experience with the Swatch Group service center in NJ, which services all pieces from the group I believe, is not good at all - they returned one of my watches in worse condition that when I sent it to them!! Bottom line, check one out in person and read as much as you can on line before taking the plunge.

Great company with a great history, but I just don't care for a lot of their watches, if I'm going to drop that much coin, it's going to be on a PP or a VC.

No problem, amigo rpryan55, the more people share their experiences, the better off we all are when it comes to making such expensive purchases!

They are out of my price range as well but something to consider down the road if I make some good money and possibly flip some of my watches.

Well i am going to go against popular opinion here, as i dont know anything about their watches, and they may be expensive and desirable, but i dont like the look of them. I didn't like my friends PP either and that was about £47500($73600) so what do i know.

It all comes down to personal opinion and likes. There are several of the Breguet references that I don't care for either, as there is with every manufactuer, including VC, AP and PP to name a few. But having said that, most of the premeir makers have watches that knock my socks off as well. I believe I'll go for those.

In the end it's not about the $'s spent, it's about getting what you like, that really matters.
