When I pick up the wife's new Air-King from RSC next week, I'm going to take her along in the hope that they will size it for her on the spot. This will require the removal of one or two permanent links (otherwise I'd do it myself). Is this a simple task with the right tool, and a reasonable request that can be swiftly fulfilled?

From what I understand removing a permanent link requires breaking or separating the pins inside and is usually done with a pliers. I'm sure an AD or any watchmaker can fulfill that request but I'm not sure how 'swiftly' it can be performed and if it would cost anything.

It takes more balls than skill to do this. I can see why you may have to do this with a woman's watch. My wife has small wrist and I cant get her to like a Rolex enough for me to buy her one.

For the RSC technician, the task is easy to do with the right tools and if they are prepared to do it.

If you'd like to ensure a hassle-free experience for your wife, call ahead and tell them you'd like an over-the-counter, while-you-wait permanent link removed and a subsequent sizing.

To get the clasp centered will require moving a removable link from one side of the clasp to the other.

Took about half hour at our local AD to remove two permanent Jubilee links from my wife's DJ. 77T is absolutely right - the clasp was offset to the 12 side of the watch and the removal of the links on the 6 side was necessary to center it.

Yes I know about Michael thanks. The place that sold me the watch has also offered to do it, but will try RSC first when collecting the watch.
