Does anyone know the correct meaning behind the Rolex Crown Symbol

I read some time ago It represents the five fingers??

On the crown itself the symbol has three dots under it, I have seen some watches with two??

Yeah, the "five finger" hypothesis derives from bjsonline where it says:

"The logo - a crown with five branches tipped with pearls - may possibly be the five fingers of the hand, although this hypothesis is not confirmed by Rolex archives."

Personally, I don't know what to think about that theory.

I believe the Rolex with the coronet wants to signal that Rolex is the king of watches (at least that's what Rolex wants us to believe).

Quite simple two dots for twinlock newer models just a small line SS and Y/gold normally 100m W/R watches ,three dots for triplock crowns, like on Sub SD etc 300m plus W/R

That's right. And there is a third symbol, too: The line.

Plus there are some variations of the dots (thickness of the dots), depending on what case material is used for the watch:

Furthermore, there is an interesting note about rose gold models. The RG Twinlock crowns have a two dots (like the WG one), and not a line.

Here is an overview:

Steel: Line
YG: Line
RG: Two dots
WG: Two dots
Plat.: ONE dot.

I'm aware of the "Five Fingers" theory. There's also another put forth by some that Hans wanted to draw a veiled reference to British Royality and chose the Coronet as his symbol.

Regarding the dots or dash under the crown...I have the ladies' SS/platinum YM (same as in my avatar), and there is a line, not a dot, under the crown. It's my understanding that the men's watch has dots. I'm presuming it's different because the ladies' model is much smaller.

I just had my watch serviced at the BH RSC and they replaced the crown. The original crown also had a line under it.
