Eleven James -- renting a high end watch

New article on Eleven James. Sounds like a cool idea.

I see at least one mention of the company on TRF purchasing a Daytona from a forum member.

Sounds like they offer eventual purchase as well. Thoughts?

I personally don't think this is a wise way to spend one's money.

I can understand renting almost anything I can think of, except a watch.

+1...renting a Rolex one cannot actually afford is for the truly pretentious.

This has been brought up before. Numbers don't work, by the time you get to "better" watches, you're better off buying. Not for me.

I can see how some might be attracted to this option but it's not for me and never will be.

I looked at it -- I think it's way too expensive for what you get and I don't like the arrangement of only having one watch at a time (I'm sure you could 'upgrade' but I'm looking at basic packages).

I like the idea from the standpoint of 'trying' different watches / brands as I'm still trying to figure out what I like - without going through the aggravation of buy / hold / flip, etc. But I'm starting to like the 'chase' for the right watches to add to my collection.

There is definitely the right 'buyer' for the service that they offer - but at the current time its not for me.

Yeah, I mean I like that the service exists and I think it's an interesting way to see if you like something before committing. Maybe a little like leasing a car.

It does seem like a watch is a pretty personal item to pass around or rent, but then people do rent jewelry and clothes which are also quite personal.
