benefits/discounts of working at Rolex AD?

I was wondering what are the benefits/discounts of working at a Rolex AD? I see almost all the sales reps have really nice and almost always current model Rolex/Tudor watches on their wrist. I was wondering how that works. One of the reps was telling me the discount was very substantial, however did not disclose to me the actual percentage. Is anyone else curious about this, or does anyone have any more information about this would be really interesting to find out. I am also assuming that Rolex forbids them from selling the discounted watches.

I've always been somewhat curious as well (not that I'm going to go get a job at a jewelry store just to procure a discount on a Rolex). With all of the threads pertaining to 10% AD discounts, one would imagine that a sales rep gets a better deal than the average 'walk-in' customer.

Having worked in commission sales before, you could not give me a Rolex for free and ask me to work in retail ever again.

I do not know how much of a discount they receive but i have heard when they purchase a watch with their discount they must have it engraved with their name.

I believe they get the option to purchase at cost but it has to have your initials engraved on the caseback. I'm not sure how often they get to buy a watch.

Heard very similair!

The salesman I know quite well has said he gets 30% off one Rolex purchase a year for himself or immediate family (only on the second year of working for them) and only on non demand models.

Yep. Especially when a lunch/dinner break and finally being able to go home are about the only things to look forward to.

They get cost (40%) minus and additional 10%. They have to get their initials engraved and can make a purchase every 5 years. There's a small list of watches that do not qualify however, SS Daytonas, BLNR GMT II, etc.

I heard from an AD manager that he gets it at pretty much cost but only 1 a year as well. The junior staff did not get the same discount.

Interesting. I was at an AD the other day and the sales rep I was talking to was a young guy in his mid twenties I figure and was rocking a nice BLNR. I figured they would get a pretty heavy discount.

I know a guy who works at a Rolx AD that also sells many other high end brands...Patek, Breitling, Panerai
He can purchase watches slightly above cost at a limited number, but even cooler than that is that the store he works at has many "demos" that the employees wear in rotation.

So what kind of markup is on a Rolex? I see "at cost" but what is cost?

Above info is accurate.
+ $35.00 for shipping, engraved with your name, 2 per lifetime is the current policy, and you agree not to resell it.

So, a 38% discount from the AD PLUS another 20% from Rolex??
How long do you have to work there to qualify?

Your owner or manager has to write a letter stating that you are actively engaged in selling their product, and you need approval from the Rolex representative. The rep usually knows who is on the sales floor or whether it's BS. I had sold mine, purchased at retail, and didn't wear one for years, have 16 other watches, and our rep told me that I needed to buy one. I now have three, two purchased directly with permission.

Wow, very cool!

But, as another has said in an earlier post, it's awfully tough work. Especially in high pressure, commission based environments.

Congrats on your recent retirement, we are very fortunate to have you here.

That's pretty cool. If I ever retire (doubtful, I like working too much) I would consider getting a job at an AD and selling them just because I really enjoy talking about watches with other people. The only thing is retail is terrible...

No. In some other countries discount depends on the model. (Higher for 2 tone or pm, less for ss). Some models are not so easy to be purchased by the staff. Not all ADs have the requirement to engrave it. Must be a UK thing.

This it true and it is permitted once a year ... the initials are to discourage resale.
