Nismo GTR catches fire at tail of dragon

Not a good day for a friend of a friend.

It sounds like the dry leaves got stuck by the brakes and the fire started.

it burned down to the ground.

The driver got out unharmed.

I didn't know either :)
Apparently somebody pointed it out where it started. Still crazy stuff.

crying shame, I'm I naive to think that every road racer should have an extinguisher? Too soon?

see the guy walking with one in his hand? :D

When I got to it, the fire had just started and I almost had control of it when my extinguisher ran out. Once I ran out, there was zero chance of saving it. It was very sad to watch.

Geeze, that sucks, good that no one was hurt. I always like tail of the dragon pics, some of them remind me of the Isle of Man TT pics and videos.

Wow... What a nice car! Sorry to learn of its fate. Owner must have spent lots of time on it. Some things money can't buy and insurance can't cover unfortunately...

A lot of sports cars are lowered. I haven’t ever lowered any of mine for this exact reason. I have seen car exhausts light grass on fire. You have to have enough undercarriage clearance. It’s cool and looks good but things like this can certainly happen. Sucks!

That is a tiny extinguisher. When I used to go off road often, I made sure to always have two decent sized extinguishers.

They may look cute; but go BIG with fire safety. And always make sure they're in spec!

Nismo GTR catches fire at tail of dragon

Sorry for your friend’s friend - the Dragon is hard on brakes if you’re really pushing the envelope. I guess it’s possible that leaves were sucked into the brake ducts, then ignited...but it’s more likely a brake line sprang a leak and the fluid ignited.

Brake fires don’t respond well to the dry chem extinguishers we all carry in our trunks (by “we” I mean each and every one of us, right?). The small 1 or 3 lb. ones are depleted quickly if you don’t focus the material onto the source. And the inside part of the wheel is where a brake fire usually starts. Brake ducts are then fuel for the fire as the melting carbon fiber ignites.

Wow! That is insane. I would never have thought Fall leaves on a road could do that.

Hopefully he get a replacement without a hassle. Heck, his story might be one for the Farmers Ins commercials. "Saw that and covered it in November of 2017"

First I've heard of leaves causing fire when hot car hasn't been parked on grass... perhaps the lip on rear bumper acted as a leaf catcher and collated enough tinder against exhaust too.

Few weeks ago in Sudney another R35 got toasted :( aftermath of a crash though. High performance car + low performance driver = doesn't end well.

Of course we all carry one, of course!! :)

Yeah, some fire and some photos. The us129 guys make awesome shots. They usually have a "funny" picture of the day, but this one was quite something spectacular. Really glad that no one got hurt!

I've never been to the dragon and honestly, no desire either, but i've heard it's a magnificent stretch of road.

Anyone ever do the TOTD? I was thinking about it and then read it’s really just a highly patrolled and crowded stretch of 30 mph turns

leaves?

burned that quickly?

i would imagine it was a fuel pump or engine issue. especially if it was tuned pushing 600+hp

those engines run very hot
