Why are BLNR Prices From Trusted Sellers So High?

I posted yesterday I've been out of the loop for a while and was surprised to see the AD in the fancy mall here pretty much out of SS sport models. I kind of thought it was a minor supply issue but after looking thru TRF for a while it seems this is a trend. In addition while perusing thru the for sale ads it seems the BLNR is significantly more expensive these days.

Thankfully I sourced mine last year thru TRF trusted seller Tony (JustRolexes) and it was as described but Tony also gave me a super deal. Now that same watch is almost 10K. Is this due to the supply issue or has the demand for it increased that much?

Simple supply and demand. It's a very in-demand piece an the AD's generally don't have any sport models at all so the grey's can charge what they like.

My BLNR was a PITA to source at an AD. Kinda worth avoiding the headache and paying over sticker to get it without any trouble imo.

Less supply at the ADs and folks are comfortable paying the premium price through the TS.

The premium right now for the Hulk and BLNR are somewhat reasonable if you consider MSRP plus sales tax. My AD told me I’d have to buy a DateJust to have the privilege to buy a Hulk... as a “pair.” Luckily I was able to buy a Batman from them last month on its own. They have me on the “list” for a SD43 (126600) I really hope they don’t expect me to buy a DJ with it lol.

I paid over for mine. All my local ADs had crazy lists. My time is worth more than my money. Even if I went on a list, and Rolex raised prices 5%, I’d still be breaking even with my TS deal. Honestly, the $700 extra I paid, well worth it. Interesting times upon us.

Rolex not sending enough, ADs being very selective who they offer blnr for, makes it a perfect medium for TSs to sell at a high premium

Sellers seem to be falling over each other seeing how high they can go. Buyers just follow.

Because TS are paying retail for them like we are and they clearly have to make a profit. There have been many threads on this topic!

I’m with you on the supply and demand equaling a reasonable premium thing, but man, what you describe your AD doing frustrates me. If any of the ADs I work with tried to pull that crap with me, and act like they’re the ones doing me a gigantic favor taking my money, I’d say goodbye, and never buy a damned thing from them again. I can always find something else to spend my money on. That’s no good!

So do things go back to "normal" if there are no changes to the hulk and batman??

I get there is a supply issue to an extend...but there are multiple hulks and blnr's for sale from trusted sellers; a true supply issue to me would be if there weren't any listed for sale. It seems that whenever one of these is sold the exact same seller is posting another for sale...

DavidSW has a new, unworn BLNR for $10,275.00. That's only a $500 premium over what I paid for my BLNR with tax from an AD.

If I was desperate for one, the extra $500 wouldn't deter me.

Hulk had strong disco rumours which sent the price up, but don't think BLNR has had any substantive disco rumours so I think it was piggybacking off of the Hulk, and then the black models followed as conspicuous demand rose for all of them.

It wasn't too long ago you couldn't give away a Hulk and now they are in high demand. Also Daytonas were always desired in steel, especially the white dial, but never to this extent.

The fact is AD's are not getting the same amount of SS sports watches now and from what I am told that will continue in 2018. So they aren't discounting them much if any now thus people are paying retail with much less supply. So clearly if someone wants to make a profit they have to sell above retail. That coupled with Rolex clamping down on dealers in effort to slow grey market you have today's environment much the same as PP and AP now. Nothing more to it than that IMHO.

Indeed the short supply and heavy demand has been the tide that has lifted most SS Rolexes, but that rumour in Aug really sent the price of the Hulk into orbit so I'm still not sure if that is based on something. There was nothing like that on the BLNR, which had much better resale before that, so the two swapping places was a significant event, so Basel will be very interesting.

I'm still amazed how I got my BLNR. Last April, walked into boutique in Barcelona and left with one. The person who it was reserved for did not answer the phone. After VAT and declaring customs, watch ran me about $7700.

There is no normal now. We are in uncharted territory now. Prices won’t go down any more than SS Daytona prices will. The market has set the price and Rolex only raises their price structure.
