Rolex ADs/stores in Ethiopia & South Africa?

Hello,

I will be headed to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa. Looking to maybe find something for retail I cannot find here.

In my travels around the world it does seem that the best deals are from the trusted sellers on TRF but as you all know, lately the game has changed significantly.

Anyways, back to my question... Any recommendations would be appreciated. I will be wearing my Daytona black dial ceramic out there with much pride.

eh...I would recommend leaving the Daytona at home and substitute it for a more discreet watch.

Some of my former clients were wealthy South Africa doctors, they told me that the chances of getting robbed at gunpoint was 50/50 whenever they went back to visit.

Im in south africa right now, passed by Murdocks and Charles Greig in waterfront last week and inventory was pretty much as in europe.
One needs to take pre-caution but 50/50 chance of gunpoint sounds a little exaggerated... I have been wearing a sub during my whole visit here, with that said during night time I always travel by taxi.

I never take a taxi when I am there - always Uber - much safer and less risk of corrupt drivers :-)

I am South African...It is a place where the high crime is very high, but if you take care you should be ok. Don't leave the watch in your hotel room, i.e. keep it on all the time and I tend to wear long sleeve shirts when there to conceal. Stay safe.

There is a dealer in the V&A waterfront. This is the address from the website:

Murdocks

Shop 122, Victoria Wharf, V&A Waterfront
Cape Town 8001
Western Cape
South Africa

Tel: +27 21 419 03 02

I live in SA and the 50/50 comment is a bit exaggerated. I would be a bit more careful in Johannesburg (common sense goes a long way), CT is generally much safer. When you are in Jhb you can check out the Vault

https://www.rolex.com/rolex-dealers/...lexdealers.com

You probably won't find any rare pieces unless you are very lucky or have perfect timing. Stock is low, waiting lists etc. Also, grey dealer prices on rare watches are crazy at times:

www.watchtime.co.za
www.topwatch.co.za

Enjoy your trip! The food and wine in SA is exceptional, try and visit a few wine farms around CT.

99% of people who say dont take it have never been and generally dont know what they are talking about on this or any other going to a specific location thread. If everyone would get robbed wearing a Rolex, i highly doubt they would have any AD's at all since they would be selling such dangerous items.

Another South African here. I echo what Reinhard said.

Stock levels in South Africa are no better than in Europe and the rest of the world. You need a solid AD relationship to secure any of the sought after SS sport models and, even then, wait lists apply.

As for safety, I’ve worn my 116610 whilst out and about for the past 6 years and I’ve never had any incidents.

I’m currently on holiday in the US (NYC, SF, Chicago and Boston) and I chose to leave my Rolexes in Cape Town for fear of being mugged whilst exploring

To the OP, use common sense and you’ll be fine

Enjoy your stay in Cape Town!!! The food, the city, the people, the mountain and the sea are all second to none!!

Bliksim, South Africa is being treated a bit hard here.

Sticking to the main areas and with some common sense your chances of being robbed is close to zero.

Yeah i agree. Moving back to Houston early next year and have been doing some house shopping. Gated community with access to the neighborhood controlled by a guard is pretty much a must for me there. No such requirement in any other place or continent i have ever lived.

Indeed, thank heavens there's nowhere in the US and UK where people would be happy to stick a knife in you for an easy few grand.....

Don't do dumb things to draw attention to yourself or look like an easy mark and, though nothing is 100%, you'll doubtless be just fine.

I was at the V&A in Cape Town last weekend. No SS sports models in the display windows but I didn’t check with them inside. Plenty of Tudors available though.

Try Mervis Brothers in Johannesburg. Bought my SD50 there last month.

With everything said, I travel with a Seiko. I don't want the worry of being robbed detracting from my experience. Took a Swatch on honeymoon to Israel and a Seiko to Europe. At home where I know the lay of the land I'll wear something Swiss

A friend of mine got his Daytona from Murdocks late last year and raved about the experience.

He works in Cape Town.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I will be wearing my Daytona not flaunting it. Also will probably be wearing long sleeves in SA b/c it will be winter when I get there.
