FS: 1965 Rolex Explorer ref.1016 w/ Tropical Dial

A very rare stainless-steel wristwatch featuring a black lacquer 'tropical' dial. This watch is among the last examples of the reference 1016 to be fitted with a lacquer dial and gilt lettering. The black lacquer dial has aged to an attractive tropical color which completely transforms the look of this watch.

S/N: 1.2mil (1965)

Case: Very Good case that has previously been polished and has some wear from use. Case back stamped IV.65

Dial: Very Good tropical glossy gilt dial. The surface of the dial has some slight imperfections. The gilt print is sharp. Hour markers have aged to a creamy hue and the hands aged a few shades lighter. The markers still glow briefly when put under a bright light, which is correct for watches from this time period.

Bracelet: Very Good Rolex USA C&I rivet bracelet with 11 links. Bracelet has average stretch for its age. Clasp is stamped: I-72
