Vintage Heuer Camaro Ref. 7743 Silver Dial

The Heuer Camaro tends to fly under the radar a bit compared to some of its other 1960s Heuer cousins like the Carrera and the Autavia. But the Camaro is arguably the most stylish of the bunch with its angular, cushion shaped case and clean dial design in two or three-register configurations.

The Heuer Camaro actually does indeed take its name from the classic American pony car. Jack Heuer was looking to establish a foothold in the American market among racing fans, just like he had done in Europe with Heuer's involvement in F1. The Camaro debuted in 1966 and was the 1967 and 1969 Indianapolis 500 pace car, so Jack had the idea to name his watch after the popular car. The Camaro established itself as one of the more unique of the classic vintage Heuer chronograph models, but it was unfortunately short lived, being produced only between 1968 to 1972 due to Heuer choosing to focus more on their new automatic chronograph powered models at the time.

The Camaro shown here is the reference 7743, which had a two-register dial layout with a 30 minute totalizer. Inside is a hand wound, cam operated Valjoux 7733 providing reliable timekeeping. This Camaro is in excellent condition and retains its original radial brushed case finish, and the original dial and hands have developed a beautiful vivid patina on the original tritium.

Take a look at the photos and our condition description below:

Case: 37mm stainless steel case in excellent condition. The case shows signs of wear commensurate with age including minor nicks on the case, crown, and pushers as pictured, but the case retains all of its original sharp edges and angles, and the radial brushing on the case surface is still crisp. The reference and serial numbers engraved between the lugs are present and crisp. Pushers are original and correct fluted style.

Dial/Hands: Dial is original sunburst silver two register chronograph dial with black printing. and applied markers. The dial retains its original tritium luminious hour markers which have developed a vivid even patina. The center hands are polished steel with matching vivid tritium patina. Subdial hands are original black.

Caseback: Original steel caseback in very good condition as pictured, with some tool marks from prior opening on the notches.

Crystal: Newly fitted acrylic crystal free of any scratching, cracking or chipping.

Movement: Hand wound Valjoux 7743 two register 30 minute chronograph movement in excellent condition and extremely clean as pictured. The watch runs great, with all movement functions working as intended, including chronograph start, stop, and return to zero. Service history is unknown.

Bracelet/Strap: Like new racing style strap with stainless steel buckle.

Accessories: None, sold as watch only.
