My New Cartier
Hey all,
I've been thinking of adding a Cartier for a while now. Years ago when I was barely getting into watches, I didn't think much of Cartier, but as I learned more about the brand, I definitely grained a strong appreciation. For sure Cartier is focused on design first and technical details second, but that doesn't bother me. Many of their designs are, IMO, superb and the brand has such a rich history. My favorite Cartier watches are the ones from the CPCP line which was in existence from 1998-2008. CPCP was focused on honoring Cartier's historical designs, finishing them to a very high standard (Did you know that the dials on the CPCP watches are solid gold?), and fitting them with amazing movements. When CPCP ended, Cartier created FWM (Fine Watch Making), their new high-end line. Unlike CPCP, FWM focuses on modern design and their movements are all in-house. The CPCP watches are hard to come by because they were all released in limited quantities. Some were numbered editions (some as low as 50 pieces), but even the ones that were not numbered were created in low quantities (it's thought to be no more than 300 pieces or so). When I saw this beauty pop up for sale, I knew that I had to have it. My first Cartier: The Tank Basculante is simply a joy to wear. It's compact, but the gold adds very nice weight. It feels substantial. Cartier did not refer to the Tank Basculante as an ultra-thin watch, but at only 6mm thick, I'd consider it an ultra-thin watch. And speaking of thin, the beautifully finished F. Piguet movement is only 2.1mm thin! Pictures do not do this watch justice. It is a real stunner in person and I am happy to call it mine. Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend! Wes |

Thank you guys! It is a lovely watch.
I am on the hunt for a few other CPCP pieces, but they’re offered for sale so infrequently that it may be a long wait. Could be a week, could be 5 years... who knows. For now, I sure will enjoy this piece. |

Great looking Cartier! Congratulations. The CPCP collection was Cartier's high point in watches, in my opinion. It's too bad they discontinued the line, as the replacements have not measured up to them.

Thanks, all.
The watch really feels amazing on the wrist. It’s so thin. Just a pleasure to wear. |
