REDUCED: Vintage 1968 18k GOLD Longines Admiral w/Beautiful Tapestry Dial, Cal. 501

Up for sale is this great looking and uncommon late 1960s Longines Admiral in heavy screwed 18k yellow gold case featuring a beautiful vertically brushed silver "tapestry" dial with date complication. This deluxe Admiral is a classic and versatile 35mm and features Longines' cal. 501, which they began using when they acquired the Record Watch Company earlier in the ‘60s. And according to Longines’ excellent Heritage department this particular Admiral dates from 1968. It’s quite unusual to find Longines dress watches in solid 18k gold from this period, much less with a heavy water resistant polygon screwed back case. This ultra cool gold Admiral is in Excellent unpolished overall vintage condition and the mesmerizing tapestry dial is Near Mint.

The asking price for this rare solid gold Longines Admiral is now REDUCED to $1,575 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx worldwide shipping. Bank Wire is always appreciated but Paypal is also OK on this watch with split fees (+2% to the buyer — sorry, no FF). Other payment options upon application. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS.

CASE & BACK: Classic gent's size 35mm wide (not including crown) x 41mm long x about 9mm thick to the top of the crystal water resistant solid gold 2-piece case with formed bezel that wears quite big because of the large face. The case and bezel appear to be unpolished and have all their original factory textures. The edges are therefore also quite sharp and thick, of course. The watch has been worn in its 50+ year lifetime and shows some minor marks, scratches and nicks — Excellent unpolished vintage condition. Twin hallmarks for gold under the lugs are visible and crisp. The outer polygon-style caseback also has its original factory machining and crisp Longines stamped reference numbers, as well as the multiple "features" nomenclature of the time engraved in circular fashion along the edges, which show just a bit of softening from wrist wear. The outer caseback has just a few scratches and some minor tool marks, likewise Excellent condition. The inner caseback is corrosion-free and is stamped with all correct Longines nomenclature of the time for an 18 karat case, as well as the watch’s actual reference, 8183. All in all, a really well proportioned & robust gold screw back design that wears very handsomely on the wrist.

DIAL & HANDS: Beautiful Near Mint original factory printed, vertically brushed silver "tapestry" dial with applied black and gold stick markers and Longines "Wings" & 5-stars logos and framed date window in gold. Original small Tritium luminous squares are present at the quarter hours. All original print is intact and the dial is very bright with only the most minor signs of age. Black-outlined flat gold stick hands also have their original luminous fill, which matches the dial, and show just a bit of oxidation from the years. Excellent condition, as is the gold baton sweep seconds hand. The effect of the brushed metallic silver dial with the gold accents within the gold case simply has terrific eye appeal!

CROWN: Correct signed Longines push in gold crown winds (albeit not so easily as it is on the small side) and pulls out to the time setting position, as it should.

CRYSTAL: Older domed acrylic crystal with gold tension ring has a few noticeable residual scratches after a light polish and one deeper nick near "12" — Very Good vintage condition.

MOVEMENT: Under the hood of this Admiral is a Longines 17-jewel automatic cal. 501 movement with Kif ultra-flex shock protection. The date is semi-quickset, so one moves the hands between about 20 and 24 hours to rapidly advance the date. As stated above, this high-grade movement was introduced into Longines arsenal with their acquisition of Record in the early 1960s and the movement serial along with the watch case numbers date the watch to 1968 according to Longines’ excellent Heritage department. While service history is unknown I did buy the watch from a watchmaker who claimed to have serviced it, just not my watchmaker. This Longines is keeping good time with strong power reserve and proper date changeover. Guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipment.

BAND: This classic Longines comes on a new black leather strap with plated steel buckle. This watch has a lug width of 18mm.

As a matter of policy, I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.

This great 100% genuine Longines Admiral is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
T.
