Opinions on Tudor 9401/0

I’ve found it very beneficial to ask this group before considering a major purchase. Looking for a review of this 9401/0 Tudor snowflake. The watch is currently in for a movement service so I am standing by. I love everything about the watch. But, there seems to be some oil on the dial near the center post and on the right edge of the dial (it may be hard to see in these pictures). The watchmaker is going to look into this to see if it can be cleaned up with some rodico or other solution... looking for any overall opinion on the watch. Price is not cheap, but fair for the condition. Definitely cheaper than a 5513 you would find in this condition. Would the darkening around the center post kill this piece for you if you were the buyer? Will need to assess in different lighting if the dial is permanently damaged. Thank you.

I don't see the staining in the pictures but these dials are often spotted and show age and imperfections. Its very difficult and expensive to find one that's perfect.

Hopefully the watchmaker can remove the oil.

If you are going to purchase the watch have the watchmaker stabilize the hands while its being serviced.

Absolutely agree with this. It's only a matter of time before the lume on vintage Snowflake hands disintegrates. An expert can stabilize them with no change in appearance.

I'm also having a hard time seeing the oil stains that the OP is referring to. The must be pretty faint. The watch looks nice.

Personally I can see it and it would bother me. The one around the center is not so bad as it’s even, but the splotch between the 4/5 o’clock marker would always catch my attention. I’d just wait and spend more for a better example. Rodico won’t fix this

I believe the OP is referring to this two (barely visible) stain:

Great watch, other than the dial. The dial would bother me less if it was cheap, but it would bother me a lot more if the watch is strong money.

Right. The stains are faint, but definitely visible. You can see them a little better on my original pics. Love the case, insert, hands and plots. Haven’t seen a snowflake I’ve liked more than this one in terms of style. Just those darn stains. It’s offered at $14k which I think is about right for an untouched example of this condition.

Really nice watch. I would make an offer but not go to 14k. Which band does it have ? Rolex or Tudor 9315?

Looks like it’s on a 7836 with 380 ends.

Definitely not 14 grand. 10-ish would be optimistic.

Wow, really? Because of the stained dial or just overall you think it’s a 10k watch? Just curious, not sure where people are finding watches in this condition for 10. Unless it is the issue with the dial that you think hurts the value that much.

1) The dial is the biggest part of a watch like this, so of course condition affects value. If you think that the oil stain is noticeable, then it's not right to say "watches in this condition". $14k would be for something superb.

2) Many of us buy from other collectors, not dealers. We are patient and opportunistic.

@Dan true - I have had some luck on the forum page over the last year or two, but just haven’t seen much quality vintage coming up lately. Could just be me.

Welcome to hit me on IG if any other collectors are thinking of making a change... @vintage_dive

Agree on the dial. Really disappointing as the rest of the watch is excellent.

I agree that it has been a little slow recently. Comes and goes.

Jacek has a 94110. I screwed up and bought a watch with a jacked up dial and regretted it. I was warned by the forum too.

Jacek has a better one for 11k right now with stabilized hands and a nice dial.

I did see that one. The look isn’t as appealing to me but it’s nice.

But that's how you come to understand market value, right? Everyone has their own preferences, but it's a decent example with an un-stained dial, and a dealer is asking $11k. It helps put the $14k asking price in perspective.

That's a nice flake - as for the stain, at least it isn't bubbling.

Why doesn’t the caseback have the model stamped?

I think the staining is worse then you think.

Thanks Chris. Will just have to wait and see if it cleans up at all.

Good question on the case back. Anyone else know if this is odd?

I looked at Jaceks 9401 and the dial has some chipping. Meanwhile he has a 65 rose tudor sub that is a complete gem for 13k. I keep looking at it, the dial is amazeballs. I know it’s not what you want but that oil stain in the last pic would be terminal to me if the seller thinks he can get 5 figures for it

I would pass for 14K. Take a look at the blue flake HQ Milton has.

They have had it a while and its priced at 11.5K.
