Rolex and milestones
Good day everyone! Newbie here. Would like to get opinions on this. As per title, do you make your purchase and 'tie' it up with something significant/ meaningful? be it an event, milestones, achievements etc.
If you do, does the sentimental value tied to your watch makes you treasure it more? Or should I say, make it harder for you to dispose it some time in the future? Thanks ![]() |

Sometimes yes. When I do link a watch to something special, I do cherish that watch so much more. My YMII for example was a 20th wedding anniversary gift. My BLNR was for recovering from back surgery. My DDII was a for my retirement. The list goes on. It adds to the character of the watch for me.

Often yes.
Actually I'd say 99% of the time I always purchase a watch related to mostly a financial milestone. I don't have my own family yet so my milestones are always mostly career, financial or educational milestones. |

I always said I would buy a Rolex after I made my first million, then I said I would wait until I owned my own business. Then I put it off again after I bought my second business. Then on my 35th birthday my wife surprised me and brought me to an ad and FORCED me to let her buy me one. So I kinda count my first (and only right now) as a combination of all those milestones, and it’s one I’ll never part with.

Thanks for the replies, nice seeing peeps getting watches (Rolex particularly) as a celebration of something meaningful instead of 'just another piece'.

Mine usually tied to events. Sabbatical. Grad school. Bonus. Start of Covid. Covid vaccination.

I purchased my first and only Rolex to celebrate a 10+ year journey that ended in me reaching my dream job. A lot of things happened during that period. Some great. Some absolutely awful. It shaped me as a person, and to me the watch symbolizes the journey, the outcome, and the future. I figured I will probably wear this watch for the rest of my life so a Rolex Submariner, something that will never go out of style even when I do, was the perfect match.

I bought my first Rolex because it was the right time for me. No particular milestone. I will be getting one for my 50th birthday... I hope... lol

Some of my watches do, but in all honesty they were all excuses I tell my self to drop loads of funds into a watch.
Bought my first Rolex for my 30th birthday; bought the Submariner Date after I got my Open Water Diver license; bought one after paying off the mortgage of an investment/rental home, bought one after the lift of a COVID lockdown, etc.

I’m really good at “justifying” purchases, like REALLY good. But thankfully my No Date Sub arrived 2 months before we are expecting our first child...so this one is legit

To be honest I buy when I have funds available, although I might see if I can get something for a big birthday later in the year.

Purchased first Rolex recently to commemorate finally becoming legal guardians of two of the grand kids... Already trying to find reasons to internally justify purchasing more :-)
