For sale is a beautiful 70’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual. What makes this one special, apart from its fantastic condition (look at the crown on the clasp, the dial texture!), is the rare blue shantung or more commonly known as a mosaic dial. Shantung a.k.a. mosaic dials, mostly made in the early 1970's, seem to be one of the lesser-known oddities of the Rolex world. Shantung (named after the Chinese province, now spelled "Shandong," where the technique was invented) is a woven silk fabric with an interesting texture. Rolex's shantung dials have silk threads painstakingly woven horizontally. They were apparently only made for Asian markets.

Given these models were only sold for a short period to the Asian market it makes them quite rare. Collectors haven’t really caught onto these yet making them affordable right now and also makes them a good option for investment as they have been slowly rising in value and that will only continue.
