Pepsi x Batman

Yea, I don’t know if I am the luckiest guy on earth, but I got a call from my AD saying that he has a Batman with Jubilee (which some people call the “batgirl”) and a Pepsi with Oyster for me to choose. I have until tuesday to make the decision.

My thoughts: the Batman is the best looking modern Rolex and one of the best looking modern-watches of all time BUT the Pepsi have way more tradition (which I value a lot) and has the perfect bracelet (the original one) especially because I already have a watch with a jubilee (datejust) and I would like to have one with an oyster. What do you guys think?

Ps. For those who are wondering how I got this “lucky” (I still have a hard time finding someone lucky to have the opportunity to spend 10k on a watch, but ok), I have had for the past years a very close relationship with the owner of this boutique, especially because he and I are both airplane pilots and I have been building a collection of pilot watchs bought from him / his store for the past year and a half with an IWC and a Cartier Santos. He told me that if any client buy other brands other than Rolex, he have a very higher chance to get a Rolex because the client is less likely to be a dealer / flipper. In my case, he had appreciated my true passion about aviation and watches and had me put up in the list (which took more than a year, anyway, and this wasnt definetely in my plans or budget, but I think I cannot pass this opportunity).

So, which one would you get?

I would get the Pepsi. The Pepsi is classic old school Rolex with modern tech. Its great. I think the GMT was meant to be worn on an oyster bracelet and PCLs on the oyster look magnificent. Pepsi all the way.

Congratulations on achieving the enviable position of having such a wonderful choice! And, ultimately, it is going to be down to personal preference. For me, although the Batman is indeed a beautiful watch, I would choose the 'classic' Pepsi every time. Good luck - I wish you well with whichever watch you choose.

If you really feel BLNr is “the best looking modern Rolex” which I’m not debating you should get the BLNR….

Pepsi. Don't like the 2019 batman on jubilee. Had it and traded it for a Mark I 2017 batman on oyster after having it for a year and not wearing it.

I owned a BLNR and sold it after a short time … just didn’t bond with the color scheme. The BLRO is gorgeous and a keeper in my books

I always found blunt great in photos but underwhelming in person.

Found bro better in person than photos.

Congratulations on “The Call”
Being a pilot working in the field and knowing the history along with starting your collection I say get them both if you have the opportunity in front of you now just bite them bullet and go for it. Nothing a little overtime can’t fix right ;) But really if you have the means and the opportunity is in front of you it may be the Universe rewarding you for all you do. Best of luck fingers crossed for you, I can’t wait to see your “ incoming” pics

It depends on what you value and what you prefer. Both GMTs sideb-by-side I think the BLNR is the better watch, and I also prefer the jubilee bracelet on these models.

But the BLRO is a rarer piece and in higher demand. From a collector's perspective the one to get is the BLRO (you can always add a jubilee), from a wearer's standpoint it's BLNR for the win.

I have both the BLNR on Jubilee and the BLRO on Oyster. I picked up the BLNR first because I preferred the black-blue combination. However, after getting the BLRO recently, I'm rarely wearing the BLNR, and I like the color combination on the Pepsi in-person far more. You can't go wrong with both. The jubilee bracelet is more comfortable, but that isn't to suggest that the oyster is uncomfortable in the slightest. If I had to pick one watch between the two, I'd go for the Pepsi.

Go with the BLRO now because it is an awesome watch and harder to come by.
Then if you still have the itch go with BLNR on Jubilee which I feel is easier to come by.
I have the BLRO on Jubilee and I absolutely love it!

I may be the exception, but I prefer the opposite to what you’ve been offered.

Pepsi on jubilee
Batman on oyster

Faced with that dilema I’d get the Pepsi and acquire the jubilee to have a two style watch to switch out from time to time

I prefer the BLRO on Oyster. I passed on a BLNR last year and got my Pepsi 15 months later.

This is a totally subjective call. Only you know which bezel and bracelet you like best. You're in a good position to make an informed decision, since you can try both on before buying. You can't lose either way.

I owned the Pepsi on Jubilee and the original BLNR at the same time for a month or two. I ended up selling the BLNR. The BLRO is going on 3 years in my small collection, and I can’t see it going anywhere.

If you are truly unsure then get the BLRO. If you decide to make the switch I’m sure there are plenty of grey dealers that would be happy to help out.

Batman and Batgirl nicknames are based on the bracelet. How come Pepsi naming isn't the same?

I like them both equally but would only get one with oyster.

Unsure how anyone calls the current BLRO a “Pepsi”, the bezel is maroon & purple. Take the BLNR, and hunt for a proper Pepsi with the aluminum bezel.

BLRO on Oyster for me. It is the original Rolex GMT with modern technology, as you said. You can't go wrong with that.

The BLNR is cool but they literally only made it because they didn't have the technology to make the bezel in red and blue at the time. So why settle?

I would get the BLNR on jubilee and then get the 16710 with blue/red bezel.

I have both but the BLRO stands out much more than the BLNR. Guess it depends on your preference..
If you don't want too much attention or under the radar, then the BLNR is the way to go.
Good luck with your choice!

I agree with you that the BLNR is the better looking watch. I never really liked the Pepsi (even in the past). It’s a little to “bright” and something one sees on EVERY Seiko diver. Not only do I like the black-blue more than the red-blue, I think the BLNR colorwave makes it a more versatile watch whereas he Pepsi is strictly a “sport” watch.

When the original BLNR came out, I too, thought it was the best looking current Rolex model. I was fortunate to get “the call” for it the summer the new Batman was released July 2019. To this day, it is still my FAVORITE watch. However, I can see your point about owning two jubilee bracelet watches ... complimenting my Batman is my black Daytona on oyster — one thing I really like is having both classic Rolex bracelets. Having said that, the jubilee is much more comfortable vs. oyster.

Lastly, I wonder if Pan-Am was approaching Rolex in the current day which model they would select between the Pepsi and the Batman? I have a feeling “history” would have been written differently.

Here’s my two:

Can you try both on and decide? Obviously, both are on different bracelets. I would choice the Pepsi on Oyster with the two. It's just a very cool watch.
