Arnold detained by customs over AP watch

This is nuts. Makes me afraid to travel through customs.

My understanding from the articles was the reason it all went down like this was because the watch wasn’t going to leave Germany (it was going to be auctioned). So they deem that an import.

Are you planning to auction off your watches in the country you take them to?

Yep, got caught for importing the watch into the EU with the purpose to sell it off at a charity's auction in Austria and did not declare it to the customs. Presumably Arnie had to pay €4.000 VAT (19% in Germany) and a €5.000 fine.
I guess his bank account will survive this financial setback.

How could they detain the Terminator for 3 hours? How many staff did they have?

His bank account will certainly survive it, but the bigger issue here is the offense itself.
Going through EU customs with undeclared goods is a criminal offense (contraband). Of course Arnie will not go to German jail but will likely result in some suspended sentence and community service. But he will almost certainly have a criminal record, unless his lawyers work some magic through the Austrian "charity" angle.

It's an import, you have to declare that in Germany, in the States or wherever you go. It's not only german or EU bureaucracy.

If you are flying in and out with the watch that's not an import, but bringing a watch to auction it or to sell it is an import, quite easy.

How about i bring in a pair of jeans and want to sell it - do i have to declare the used jeans i am wearing while passing through customs because i want to sell it?

If you bring anything with the intention to trade you must declare it.

If your intention is selling yes, you would have to declare it.

Obviously nobody is paying attention to a single pair of jeans, but if you bring a bunch of brand new expensive clothes it's possible they pay attention to you.

If you bring something in and are not taking it back out it's an import, there might be taxes to be paid.

The LE Royal Oak Offshore Arnold Classic sold presumably for € 270k in Kitzbühel during the Schwarzenegger Climate Iniative auction.

I know he only took one watch to Germany, but I thought I read somewhere that there are 10 of these Arnold rotor ROOs…perhaps the others will be auctioned elsewhere.

Another odd point about this piece that I can’t get over is why is the rotor which honors Arnold’s bodybuilding career fitted on the EOD movie watch. At least if they had used a Terminator rotor it would have been a little more in scope, maybe

I saw his watch at the service center.
Prob shouldn’t post it but whatever.
I think this whole thing was just to get hype around the auction.

How did you get access to it at the service center…were they showing it to you?

Interestingly, I didn’t realize how many different Schwarzenegger AP watches there are. There’s this T3 Terminator version (white and black dials), a 42mm ROO, the EOD 1 & 2, and a Legacy piece. There’s probably others I missed.
I like the above T3 version as both EOD versions.

I got a private tour after the watchmaking class- which was a lot of fun!
Saw some really amazing watches that day. Very memorable.

If he wanted hype for the auction, he could have just mentioned about it on social media, which he didn't.

Arnie at least took two watches into Germany. I can not identify the watch on his wrist, but it looks like a full red gold RO with a burgundy dial. Maybe an unique AP special for Arnold.

Elsewhere the claim was that the one on his wrist was a 42mm RG ROO, aka the Brick.
