Overall thoughts on a service Daytona 6265

Was close to pulling the trigger on a 6265 but it sold quick. Just curious on thoughts on a 6265 with a service dial, hands, and bezel. Price was slightly under $40k which seems reasonable, case looks to be in great condition and just looks like a cool piece!

Are these luminova service parts? Do they glow in the dark or are they early replacements? Either way it’s an attractive watch at relatively good price.

As long as you like it that’s all that matters. Some people are put off when so many parts are switched out but as long as it’s something that doesn’t concern you and it’s reflected in the price then don’t be put off.

I think I am in a tiny minority but I love the 'full service' look, basically a 'brand new' vintage piece. Lunar Oyster had a 1680 recently with service dial, hands, insert, plexi, etc. In better condition than most 116610s you see! Was ~£6k (equivalent), so cheaper than pretty much any 5/6 digit Submariner. Bargain.

Apologies; no Daytona related content but I'd take this if I was in the market and the value reflected the smaller 'service' market, happily :D

That looks really good!

I have previously posted a thread about something similar, but more along the lines of buying a really beaten up vintage Daytona and sending it for service at Rolex Geneva. The main reason being that if the watch is going to come with service parts, it should be documented where those parts came from. Too many counterfeit service parts are floating around in the vintage circle. If it does come with the Rolex Vintage Atelier documentation, the watch looks lovely for its price!

The pre-99 service 'real' tritium t swiss t 'small reds', and to lesser extent tritinova C 2000-2005, are a bit more sought after than post C 2006 to date Swiss luminova versions imho. This one looks like a tritinova btw.

In fact the font work and application of red DAYTONA is actually applied in less blobby fashion than big reds, for what it's worth....

Circa £36-38k is about right or 2/3 price of an original dial big red or sigma dial 6263/65.

Lower demand pool come resale of course - but another way to look at it only £10k or so more than a more (imho) dreary 16520 !

*NB - Need to take more care with a service dial 6263/6265 though, as the dials can be picked up for JUST £2-3K (as buyer have sourced £12-15K original dials and sell the service dial cheaply), and as such the dails can find their way into fake cases and non-rolex 727 version calibres....seen a quite few*

Extremely helpful, I was looking for guides online to distinguish the difference between service bezel, pushers, etc but couldn’t find anything!

Vintage Rolex is always a bit of a minefield. Best to consult some proper literature if you’re after a piece like this. Hope you have some Mondani books lying around.

Good point. I'm considering a 1675 GMT with service dial, hands and bezel...

Owning one can be incredibly rewarding, both as a collector's treasure and as a watch you can enjoy wearing every day. So it is up to you to decide

The thing is...on a dial and hand set like this...the difference between the luminova service plots and hands...is SO minimum that it doesn't detract at all.
AND guess what? It works like it was MEANT TO. What a novel idea.

There was a very cheap (£5,XXX-ish) 5513 service in the classifieds here a few days ago. Whilst I am not a fan of the white gold surrounds on the service 5513 markers - it was another that was very appealing!

My 6239, 6265s, 6263, are all original, but this week I saw a 6265 with service dial and hands on eBay that was selling for about nothing, but within an hour, it was gone.

Congrats! Curious to where you bought it from, most of the 6265s I see are starting in the low 60s.

Looks nice. My old 6265 barely has much tritium left on the hands.

up to you on what value actually is. Vintage transactions are further and fewer in between. So you ultimately have to base it on your love. For now, all vintage serviced watches are further down the ladder of monetary value than original parts. A lot of older collectors are still kind of taken aback by this. Because "back in the day" everything was relumed, re polished, serviced, replaced to look like new.

Buy at at great price and see where it goes from there.
