Nylon gets mildew very quickly when it gets wet.

I recommend canvas straps or Erika’s straps.

Also not a fan of the added thickness to the watch from the nato.

So when it comes to typical nato strap, in a word. Pass.

Ps extra material is also not ideal.

I personally can't stand them - one of the reasons I love rolex is because the bracelets are top tier in aesthetics / feel / and built with tight tolerances. Not to mention the endlinks giving the case a bigger and more finished look as opposed to aftermarket. To each their own though.

I’ve never taken the bracelet off my 116610 but I have with my Explorer. I actually kind of prefer it that way, though it is on the bracelet currently.

I don’t really do NATO because I have very small wrists so I get a lot of bulk with a NATO and it looks bad.

However, I love a paratrooper style like Erika’s. I wear my Explorer on a variety of those or leather. I do have a leather NATO which I trimmed up and I wear that too.

I’m not completely against putting my Sub on one BUT I have both black and blue Tudor BB58’s that I constantly swap straps on.

I wore my 14060m on a wide variety of NATOs for a number of years because the bracelet was sacked out and I didn’t like it. Then I got the bracelet repaired and rediscovered it. Some colorful NATOs could be fun but as a rule I prefer bracelets. I’ve never been tempted to put a NATO on a six digit Rolex.

I like it for a quick change with 4 and 5 digits, but overall I prefer bracelets.

Rolex is always a bracelet watch for me. Omega and others do the strap or bracelet look better IMO.

Don’t find nato appealing. The doubled up side looks weird to me.

It gets wet and stays wet. It'll start to smell.

Can be a bit hit and miss - really depends upon taste and personal choice. Works for some but not for all!

I like a good single pass strap, like a NATO, but without the extra little flappy piece. But that's an easy fix with a regular NATO, you can just cut it off.

I find a good nylon strap to be the most comfortable for me usually.

I don't love them on the 6 digit models, though that Explorer 2 does look pretty good, that's definitely the best of the modern ones for a NATO I think. Older 5 digits, especially ones with lug holes, are the best Rolex models for a NATO I think.

But, don't forget about Tudor, they make a lot of watches that work great on a NATO strap, including the FXD models which are specifically designed for that style of strap. I have the black FXD and I love it. Love that they made a modern fixed bar dive watch and how the implemented it. The light Ti case on a nylon strap is also so light and comfortable on the wrist.

I actually have 4 new simple NATO straps arriving for it today, will probably bring my total strap count for the FXD up to 25 or so I bet.

Question for the group who don’t support NATO on modern Rolex’s, bracelet quality aside, what is it specifically you don’t like? Is it case shape, case polishing? Thanks for the additional insight.

If James Bond hadn't done it, nobody else would have.

That's my take.

If you're into a more rugged look, the nylon NATO straps are great, but if you prefer a dressier feel, you can opt for leather NATO straps.

The added thickness due to the webbing against the caseback and and the extra strap thst gets folded over is a no go for me.

I have tried setting a few of mine on natos but ended up back on factory bracelet, which i think it looks best in. I have let time in on the natos but it still feels odd to me.

Nato straps are great options for 5 & 4 digit references.

But an MN from Erika is my favorite option due to the amazing comfort provided & overall application of the strap.

As someone that handles dozens of watches a day ,changing batteries and such, do yourself a favor if you put a NATO strap on. WASH IT occasionally! I can’t tell you how many I have had to touch that smelled like death, and were stiff as a board.
