Simple physics. The rounded links on the jubilee and president bracelets make light more likely to reflect back to observers given the short radius convex surface = more sparkly.

Google "light reflecting on convex surface."

I agree with your wife. The PCL oyster is even flashier paired with a fluted WG bezel. Especially in the sunlight.

Don't know what law of physics is being referenced but it certainly is not "Simply Physics" A curved surface will reflect light at different angles along it's length and away from your eye's with the exception of the single point that may or may not be in line, whereas a polished flat link will act as a mirror.

Your wife is absolutely correct the jubilee when on your wrist almost looks brushed but those polished center links reflect enough to signal an airplane from the ground.

Jubilee is way flashier, it has many more polished surfaces and angles to catch light compared to the PCL Oyster. Thinking otherwise is just fooling oneself imo. It's this same reason 6 digits are more flashy in general. Nothing wrong with that at all, just is what it is.

Shinny angled surfaces don't catch light they reflect light in many directions if they cough it they would not be shinny. I own both so comparison is easy the jubilee when not on the wrist or in direct light does look flashy however when light can't pass through the bracelet there are times it looks brushed. No matter what I do with oyster bracelet with polished center links they act like mirrors completely dislike them "My Opinion". A brushed oyster bracelet is wonderful. I would say unless you own a jubilee bracelet you really can't provide valuable information.

Flashier: oyster with PCL.

I trust a woman's judgment because they are immune to the Rolex fanboi herd mentality and group-think.

Jubilee. But for some reason, feels less flashy if it's on a GMT.

My DJ has oyster PCLs. And I thought it would bother me a lot. But most days, I actually don't really notice it. Depending on how light hits it, it becomes more or less noticeable.

But maybe it's also because my watches get so beat up, the PCLs have less shine. Haha.

Light hitting a flat surface reflects at one angle - so you need to be at that correct angle to see the light so to speak, and the whole surface will look bright, because it's flat - so when you see it, you really see it.

Light hitting a curved surface will reflect at many angles. Because it is reflecting back at many angles, it makes it such that the position of the observer is less constrained - there are more possible angles where they will "see the light." That, plus, the geometry makes it such that there will be areas of reflection and areas where light is not reaching, the curve also makes it such that some links will reflect off of each other as well. This creates a perception of bright and dark zones on the surface, which we perceive as sparkly. Mystro's BLNR photo shows this nicely.

So my thesis is that the jubilee is uniformly more flashy and tends to look that way more of the time, but WHEN you get hit by a flash of the oyster, you notice it.

Thanks guys for all your great opinions. I showed my wife the tread and told her 90 percent agree and said the jubilee is flashier. She found the few that said oyster with PCL’s and said see I rod you. Can’t argue with a woman’s logic. Lol. I had the same version of the same watch but one with jubilee and one with oyster. I sold the jubilee because it was too flashy for a everyday wearer. She has the jubilee on hers.

Oyster with PCL shines like a mirror in sunlight. Jubilee sparkles. So it depends on the light source.
