I've always been a fan of blue faced watches, and my current watch is a Tag Link Calibre 16 'DiCaprio' ;) :)

I'm looking to buy a Yachtmaster as for at least a year or two now, this is the only Rolex that has ever caught my eye. I've found a 2 year old one, for $8000 USD (in my budget)... so you'd think 'All Systems Are Go'

Hmm, well I visited here and have since realised that there's a much loved model called the Daytona. Indeed this is a truly stunning timepiece, and I'm wondering whether I should switch at the 11th hour.

The Daytona doesn't have a blue face of course. The other issue is black or white... I usually favour dark, but here's a watch that looks equally good in both colors.

Perhaps the bigger issue is pushing the budget up by another $2k. The dealer also has one of each in stock, as well as the YM.

I suppose the gut feel is if I did buy the YM, would I keep wondering whether I should have bitten the bullet and gone Daytona !?

Check the prices of the trusted sellers here on this forum. You can get a new Daytona for less that at the retailer.

IMO the Daytona is much nicer than the Yachtmaster. Go for it!

Go with your heart the YM with blue dial is an awesome piece and I think more interesting than the Daytona and I have one. I think it is a great first Rolex it dresses up and down. Has elements of the Sub and an awesome dial.

Try them on and see what really clicks for you. I was initially surprised at how small the Daytona seemed at first glance; but I fell in love the moment the clasp clicked shut. It is a powerhouse first piece for my collection and I enjoy it more every time I look at it.

If you are going to spend money on yourself, don't settle for a deal and a what if.

I would spend the extra dough on the Daytona. You'll lose a lot less in the long run and the Yachtmaster is not one of Rolex's best sellers. Daytona is a classic.

I'd agree that the Daytona is a wiser decision as far as a resale value if that is any concern.

Don't overthink it...get the watch you've lusted after for the last two years. The Daytona can be next...yes, there will be a next, especially if you hang around here.

PS: Here's a couple more of my favorite blue dials...the DJII and the bluesy sub ceramic. For future reference.

i had to have changed my mind 2 or 3 times before i settled on my first Rolex model. i settled on a GMT II Ceramic. i've been happy with it for 2 years now... its my daily wearer.

I’d probably head straight to the front of the line and get the Daytona. From the looks of things you see the Daytona as the pinnacle of your desire. What will happen is that you’ll get the YM and shortly thereafter you’ll yearn for the Daytona.

Well you’ve had 6 and a bit years to ponder this since you started this thread, did you buy your YM, do you still have it?

If you really wanted the Daytona you’ve had ample opportunity to pick one up in the intervening years.

Maybe it’s the residue value six years on that has you thinking ‘what if’?
