Sounds like you've been visiting the wrong ADs. This is not a "requirement" that I have ever come across. Keep looking.

To OP. In the UK, the grey asking price for a Blue OP36 is not double MSRP. Maybe it's different in your neck of the woods. Personally, I would keep hunting around ADs. If you have two years to fine one at MSRP, you stand a chance. Best of luck with it.

It's a fantastic watch with a fairly small cost for a Rolex. I would try to save the money to get it once you have visited every AD in reasonable proximity. You may get lucky within 2 years time. Otherwise you will have the money to go grey if the AD's won't accept the pay!

I honestly don't think its realistic. Plan to save enough money to buy them all grey or get somehting not crazy hot like the OP line right now.

Makes me wonder what the catalyst will be that finally ends this game.

I think I can come to terms with how we got to this crazy demand on the non black subs, GMTs and the like. But how we started to clamor for OP 36 whatevers is freaking beyond me... Just curious what's the philosophy on OP36 attraction?

While a lot has been evaluated including vintage Valjoux 88 watches, Tudor Black Bay Chrono, Tudor Submariner (75090 or 75190) and vintage Rolex GMT Master such as 16710 and 1675, I decided that I want add a completely new, reliable and simple watch to my collection.

So I went on my merry way to my AD in Denmark to sign up for the Rolex OP as I figured 2 years would probably be adequate wait time, so the timing was perfect.

What the hell happened, since when have 36mm Rolex watches become popular? I couldn't even get on the waiting list... So I guess I will have to pay 50% overprice to get one in 2 years

What watch are you trying to acquire and how is the situation with your AD?
Well, this is like reviving an old thread but now the contemplation over paying 50% over retail for the "tiffany blue" OP36 sounds like loosing the best chance ever...

If it was Turquoise Blue you had on your mind.

Haha lucky it was not! Still trying to get on a waiting list for the Sunburst Blue…
Honestly, I’ll probably end up getting a 16760 with killer dial instead of this crap situation xD

Yes, it's an inconvenient truth that the watch you want isn't necessarily the watch you will get, and certainly not in the desired timeframe.

There's two ways to look at this though.

1. There is a much lower percentage of the world population that considers luxury watches as a folly, so finally us veteran watch aficionados have become normal.

2. The inevitable outcome of 1 is that competition for watches has dramatically increased, and with it the inconveniences you cite.

When OPs are selling over list, everything is broken. It’s bananas.
