14060 vs 126710 on 6.1" wrist

Debating between a 5 digit birth year submariner or a 12 series GMT. Not considering a 5 digit GMT.

The 5 digit submariner will definitely wear better, but I really want something I can ding or bang up and not baby so I imagine a ~30 year old watch is worse for that. I'm more partial to the air concept as well vs sea.

Will the 126710 just look comically stupid on a 6.1" wrist though? Only reference that I have unfortunately is my 40mm Apple Watch below. I want a 36mm Datejust to be my second dressier watch, so really looking at these two for something more sporty. Or should I consider a Speedmaster 38 instead of the Sub/GMT?

Unfortunately any 40mm sport watch will look large on you. IMHO, the new 36mm Explorer is probably the best watch for your wrist size/needs. Happy hunting and welcome to the forum.

I also have a small wrist, and honestly it kind of depends on how flat your wrist is. Mine is kind of flat, so I can (barely) get by with a 41mm watch (depending on how it's built).

The 14060 will definitely look better on you. And they are plenty durable, I wouldn't worry about that at all. Bust up the bezel? No worries, they still make replacement parts.

36mm Explorer is without a doubt the best fit, but I really want something with a bezel unfortunately haha. Thanks, looking forward to contributing!

Definitely leaning towards the 14060 I think.

Yea that's exactly why I think that, if I'm paying a premium to begin with, I should get as new as possible.

I have a 6 inch wrist and the 14060 wears well. However, I wouldn't go any larger than 40mm in my opinion. Also, I find a 40mm watch wears better on a strap vs. bracelet for small wrists. Rolex bracelets for 40mm watches are made for 6.5 inch wrists and up.

I vote for the 14060. Mine is from 1997 and feels very sturdy.

5 digit. Modern max case will look silly.

Because it’s a classic that is out of production…

Any popular watch that is out of production and thus limited will be expensive.

If new is what you value, sure.

Get a BB58. Black dial, on bracelet. 39mm perfect size for smaller wrist sport piece. The endlinks pivot down so it will hug your wrist nicely.

Daytona is also a good choice for small wrist.

You can get a 14060M that's approx 10 years old, no need to go to 30 or so...

BB58 is a great watch and great on a smaller wrist.

14060 vs 126710 on 6.1" wrist

The two smallest wearing watches you can go for are the 14060 or the 16600. The 16600 wears smaller because it's thicker. I wouldn't go with a Sub date personally, it's marginally bigger (0.2mm I think) but wears larger due to the cyclops.

If you were looking at modern stuff I would say the new Explorer or any six digit GMT. The six digit GMT wears noticeably smaller than any six digit sub

Many men and women that have small wrist still wear the new Sub and GMTs.

Try it on if you like it, wear it.

5-digit Sub is the Rolex diver for you. It has proven itself to be extremely robust; the fact that so many examples have survived this long is the assurance you need to not baby it. In fact, a brand new, shiny ceramic Sub may make you more hesitant to wear...

If you are open to something outside of Rolex, the Tudor mid-size Subs (like the 75190) from the 90's may be the perfect fit for your wrist. Explorer-size with dive specs.

OP, we are pretty much an arm size and shape match.
Flattish 6-1/8" arm here. Yours seems flattish too.
My 14060M fits me WELL.
VERY well, due to its closely down-turned lugs.

pk552502's comment about the 6.5" arm bracelet length is pretty much correct. My bracelet "worked", but I eventually went strap too.

This watch is not for anyone if THEY have a ROUND arm <like a broomstick.>

My limit for size is the larger Sky-Dweller, and that is pushing it. Love my SKY-D though!

5 digits are tough as nails. I put my 16610 through more crap than most people here. The aluminum bezel still looks new as does the crystal

Sorry but both are going to look too big, you’ll get people here telling you it looks fine but the fact is you will look like a child wearing their Dads watch. Just like I would wearing a DSSD.
If you wear something that fits it looks like you’re wearing the watch and not the other way around. A 36mm Explorer will fit way better. You could always add a 36mm Omega Seamaster if you must have something with a bezel.

The BB58 on a single pass nato could work. You could get it on a bracelet and play around with straps beyond that if needed. It's great value too.

If you try a 5 digit sub and it works for you, get one...... you'll love it forever and as said above, it's tough as nails and you don't have to baby it.

If you end up getting the 14060M & decide on keeping it after however long, I would suggest to make the following modification if you're like me & prefer a snug fit. I won't tell you how (there are a handful of ways that can be researched on this forum, each with its pros & cons) but suggest you look into & select the method you feel most comfortable.

* 5 links total on the 12' o clock side (4 permanent links)
* 4 links total on the 6' o clock side (3 permanent links)
* Clasp slider in 2nd spot (red arrow; adjust this to your liking)

Here it is on my 6' wrist:

Hope this helps/Makes sense. Good luck!

I think you could get away with a 14060, but a thing bigger than that is going to look huge.

It’s more a matter of how you wear the watch. If you are conscious of it, the watch will be an eye sore. If you are comfortable with the look, it’s easier to pull off.
