I Had a Dream About The Explorer II 226570 LOL

Ok so this isn't another "I heard a rumor" thread, it's much much crazier than that haha.

This actually happened a couple months ago but I'm just getting around to telling the story. I had a dream that Rolex made a new version of the explorer 2 at 41mm using the same case and bracelet from the new Submariners (126610 & 124060).

When I woke up I went into a bit of an Explorer 2 rabbit hole. I have absolutely no reason to think this will happen other than this stupid dream and researching a little bit about the history of this watch. So here are some basics of what we know as facts:

First ever Ex2 was made in 1971.

There was a relatively short run of ref. 16550s, but in 1989 they introduced the 16570 (with Cal. 3185 movements). This model ran for more than 20 years but just before the 40th anniversary they started putting the updated Cal 3186 movements in the 16570s.

I'm not totally clear on this but what was there 1 maybe 2 years of this transitional movement model? Then in 2011 for the 40th anniversary Rolex released the 216570 with the Cal. 3187 movement.

Fast forward to 2021 they changed the reference to 226570, updated the movement (just as they did in 2010) and added the small crown in between swiss made and made some marginal cosmetic changes.

SO... could history (sort of) repeat itself? Is it possible this 226570 will be a 1-2 year run watch with an entirely new design in 2022!?? Get out your tin foil caps

(I am in no way pretending to actually know the future of this watch or any other watch. This was all sparked by a real dream that I had. This is all for a bit of fun. If you can't handle this type of talk, click on and bring your negative BS elsewhere )

Wow, you dream about watches? Interesting.

As for your dream, I don’t think this will be the case. We will likely see small changes in few products this year just like we did last year. And most years for that matter.

If you think Rolex will change the 226750 after a 1-2 year run, you're dreaming!!

But if they do, my 2021 will skyrocket in value and I'll be able to trade it for a turquoise OP41

I wouldn’t say it’s a regular thing but this wasn’t my first time dreaming about watches haha.

It's already gone up almost $1k MSRP with the most recent Rolex price increase

In the gray market the new explorer II has gone up 76%. No bad for the ugly duck of the group, for some people.
I have the opportunity to add this model last year, by luck. I text my sales person asking if she had a GMT to sell me , she text me back asking if I am interested in a White Explorer II, the rest is history.
The watch really is very attractive in person, now my TT Submariner and Daytona Panda are taking a break.

Its perfect for those with large wrists.
I have a 6" wrist so I am better off with the 16570
