Interesting how a watch can go from an unloved dog to nearly everyone's darling.

Enjoy your new pieces!

+1

The Aquanaut is the very definition of a hype watch. Almost no one wanted one before the social media crazy.

5205 and Daytona are a great combination, and both are better watches than the 5164, IMO, even 1:1.

Even in a 1:1?!

I have a 116500ln and it would never win against the 5164a. NEVER EVER.

I didn’t want one at retail, and certainly don’t want one at multiples of that price. To each their own.

I’d definitely make the trade, you can sell the Daytona anytime you want to.

For me, the iconic Rolex of the 6 digits, and a complicated PP is a no brainer.

Congrats OP. I would have stayed with the 5164 especially that an update of the Daytona might be due this year.

To be honest, updated rolex watch means more or less nothing to me as it makes both newer and older version still unobtainable.. in some cases, it makes older version price is skyrocketed

Depends on your taste and lifestyle but I would never do this trade, The 5164 is very versatile and much more comfortable. Daytona C is a very shiny watch.

Congrats on the trade as long as you enjoy it its a win win. Money or Value wise I think that was a fair trade or more likely a win for you.

As for me, back in late 2020 had the funds to get a watch and during that time the 5164 was priced around 50K, really wanted one and its been in my list to buy even before, it was my Patek sportswatch of choice. But an Ap messi rose gold in NOS condition popped up out of nowhere and this was also a watch that I have been wanting ever since it was released in 2012.

My thought process was I can get the 5164 again anytime since it was still in production, however the ap ro messi rg was a one off 8 yrs after release. So went with the AP. At times still regret choosing the AP since I have been priced out of a 5164 but hopefully can get one soon.

5164A will be back to 60k soon I guess. Here in my country seems like every big dealer has at least one and have been sitting on their display since forever.. some also will let it go below 70k. Sadly, before I decided to do the swap some dealers are offered me to buy mine with very low price around 55k -60k.

I cant blame such a lower offer since the stocks are basically everywhere and need a very special price to let it be sold fast. And some also said they need extra margin to compensate all the lost they had for keeping the older stock. Madness

Recently purchased a 5205g. It’s a phenomenal watch and you should definitely keep an extra strap on hand to dress it up or down. It’s very versatile!

Haha.. its indeed a nice watch for men who has tiny wrist like us. I wanted to order a new strap with patek deployant buckle. But cant resist to pay the price tag.
