Exhibition Pieces

I'm curious to know what happens to the watches that are displayed as part of the exhibition program. Are they returned to Rolex? Sold by AD? Given to Greys?

Why would you think they would be given to greys much less anybody. It is still a business.

The AD is required to buy them. Rolex at some point tells the AD they can sell a piece. The AD has no idea when and is given zero heads up. They are equally frustrated.

I am note sure outside of Chicago, but 2 different ADs operating multiple locations here have confirmed that exhibition pieces are required to on display for 60 days and can then be sold, as long as, they have a sufficient display and inventory stock on hand. Neither AD specified specific amount of that stock.

In the early days of exhibition watches, only Boutiques and bigger dealers had them and they were non functional pieces that presumably were on loan, at least in the US/RolexUSA.
Now the story seems to be that they are regular dealer stock but a certain number must be displayed for a certain amount of time. When more stock replenishes them, the AD can sell them.

Yep, that is my understanding as well.

May vary by region, but this seems to be the case in the U.S. And yes, something in the plan switched about a year ago here.

Have to remain exhibition for 30 days, then they are sold. But they are typically accounted for.

Considering exhibition pieces are handled by 100’s of potential buyers and most probably have handling marks, do AD’s touch them up when they are ready to be sold? I know when I try them on, I am very careful when I set them down. But I am more careful than most 😎.

I have only tried on a Deep Sea Challenge and a Celebration dial OP41. They were both fully stickered, I would guess wear is negigible if any. I wouldn’t have an issue buying an exhibition piece if it was something in short supply.
