Best Lange/Patek Combo

Decided that my next two watches are going to be some mixture of a Lange and Patek. I know I want a moonphase on one so trying to decide between some combo of a Lange 1 Moonphase/Patek 5212 or Lange 1/5396 Gray Face. Already have a Patek 5110 and a VC 1921 so definitely like different dials but would love people’s thoughts!

I would definitely opt for the L1 Moonphase. What Patek you add after that depends, and I wouldn't be constrained to the 5212 (only because it's not one I prefer). If your choices are static, then I'd go with the L1 Moonphase and 5212.

I chose n°1 because I find Lange's moonphase look far better on a traditional model and that I would enjoy aesthetically a 5212 more than a 5396G (that's just me).

Furthermore, the 5212 looking a little sportier and combining well with a large choice of straps, I think it would be a better combination alternating with a traditional piece like the L1 (the 5396 and L1 are closer in term of classical spirit to me).

Very helpful! With the L1 Moonphase I’m thinking of contrasting it with a less formal Patek that has some complications but no Moonphase. 5212 largely fits but maybe also a 5235 though the dials are a bit similiarish to Lange.

If you can consider looking other models than a 5212, yes there are choices, like the several 5960 references made over the years, especially the 5960P silver dial which has a quite sportier spirit while remaining a traditional model (the 5960A or G are also sportier versions). The 5235 is a great model with a very interesting movement, though you should look at one in the metal before deciding imho.

Take your time and maybe you can enjoy the Lange first and then see how your tastes evolve.

I have 3 each from both brands. One classic item from the brand, another is something unique to both Lange and PP; and lastly their sports watches.

PP 5146 and ALS 1815 Chrono are quintessentially Patek and ALS respectively.

In the case of ALS Timezone and PP 5235, you can only find them in each of the brand.

But I will can bring myself away from PP 5164a and ALS Odysseus SS. They brought the best of the brand. Sporty and yet elegant.
