Broken Rolex glass
Hello,
I would like to inquire about the cost of repairing the broken glass on my Rolex Explorer II. Do you have an estimate for the repair costs? Should I go to Rolex directly or to an authorized dealer for the repairs? Thank you very much for your advice; I am new to the world of watches |

Pull the pin, stop it ticking then take it to a AN or service center. Cost? dial hands damaged?

I would go to RSC directly. You could possibly have glass in the movement. RSC will want to do a complete service. Probably around 1,000 USD (My last service, Submariner in 4/2023 was 750 USD for the complete service). And replace the crystal, I am guessing 200 USD.
Best of luck. Lee |

Crystals are not really expensive but expect Rolex will insist on a full movement service as.its possible tiny shards of glass could have entered the movement.

Get it to the RSC. Full service will be requires and possibly a new face if the current one has been damaged by the glass.

Most any Dealer with a shop can do the job. Any watchmaker worth his salt will insist on a full service to ensure no damage or contamination of the movement.
The RSC, of course, is an excellent choice. It seems that they would want to replace the dial and hands if the glass has caused the slightest scratch or blemish and so you could expect to have a very expensive repair bill here. If you have a current warranty, this voids it but a Rolex shop, or the RSC will provide another 2 year warranty.

It’s a shame but easily fixed. Just get it to a RSC or any other watchmaker with a parts account. Like others said, it is wise to do a full service to check for splinters in movement.

Do not pass go. Go straight to the RSC. While Rolex movements are robust, they are not robust enough to shrug off tiny shards of glass & keep moving without possible future incident. As someone else mentioned, pull the crown to stop the gear train so the hands to bump into any more glass.

Ouch! I’ve done that. As others have said, pull the crown to stop the watch. Rolex will require a full service as that glass gets everywhere inside the watch. It will need new hands, face, crystal and a few other parts if the watch wasn’t stoped as soon as it happened. I did the same thing to a three month old watch. Rolex was amazing fixing it as they covered most of the repair, I believe I only had to cover the crystal and some labor. Rolex service sent a nice hand written note that this one was on them but if it happens again it’s on me. I expected to have to pay as the break was my fault. Because they treated me so well I’ve purchased many more Tudors and Rolex watches. Rolex in the long run came out on the better end of the deal. Sorry it happened, Rolex can fix it like new.
